It can be tough at times, being a female rider in such a male-dominated sport, so when DirtWarsUK reached out about doing a Girls Only Dirt Jump Jam we jumped at the chance to get involved. We, at DMR, understand that it can feel like you're lost at sea, among all the male riders at events, races and competitions, which can make women feel alone, unwanted and without a sense of belonging. We wanted to create a safe and supportive atmosphere whereby girls wanting to push not only their own, but also their fellow ladies' abilities and skills, as well as building confidence to compete alongside the men in the DirtWars series, in their own category.

There can be a unique exhilaration, or excitement, riding alongside fellow female athletes, something akin to finding that person, or persons, with a similar skill or mindset as you. This is something we wanted to exaggerate, and concentrate on with this event. With this in mind, our primary aim was to see how much interest a Girls/Womens category could get, as well as finding out more about what the challenges are that the women face, and make the Dirt Jump scene here in the UK more accessible, and more welcoming to girls who shred.

The feedback from this event has been astoundingly positive, with no one having anything negative to say whatsoever. The girls left feeling enlightened, encouraged and with a heightened feeling of confidence in their riding ability. We'll take that as a win.
