Panorama's bike park to focus on FUN!

Jun 5, 2008
by Jordan Holmes
With opening day on June 27th quickly approaching, Panorama’s trail crew is hard at work preparing trails and adding what Panorama’s new Bike Park Manager, Darcy Lehr, calls the “fun factor”.Lehr is a passionate and knowledgeable rider with close to ten years of experience in biking. He has competed in a number of world-class events, riding everything from gnarly downhill single track to epic cross-country trails and BMX dirt jumps. Lehr has been on the race committee of both the Alberta Bicycle Association and Cycling B.C., and currently oversees all legal trail building and maintenance in the Columbia Valley as President of the Columbia Valley Cycling Society.

“I’ve been working at Panorama since 2004 and I’ve watched the Bike Park evolve into one of B.C.’s best” says Lehr. “The park has so much potential and I’m excited for the opportunity to take it to the next level. This year, we want to focus on the fun factor of the park, and we plan to start by rebuilding and renovating existing trails throughout the park. Think new berms, jumps, and features. There’s lots of ground to cover in a short time, but my trail crew is up for the challenge".

Lehr won’t share all his secrets, but here’s a preview of what to expect…
• Widening of Rocking Horse
• New features on Let It Ride
• Bigger and better berms
• New dirt jumps
• Improvements to the flow of Hell’s Bells

If you haven’t checked out Panorama’s Bike Park recently, there’s a smokin’ deal on accommodation for riders. Upgrade from the back seat of your car for only $59* per person per night. Basic, budget-oriented accommodation is right at the base of the park and includes breakfast and access to the Panorama Springs Hot Pools.

Panorama’s Bike Park is open from June 27th to August 31st, from 10:00am to 5:00pm (open until 8:00pm on Saturday’s). Celebrate the start of the season with the Mad Trapper Downhill Mountain Bike Race on June 29th. With approximately 240 riders expected, competitors are invited to register online today at www.panoramaresort.com.

Absolutely sick. Darcy is exactly what Pano has needed. SOOO much potential that has just been spoiled until now. Glad to finally see someone who really knows what they are doing able to set the bike park straight. For anyone who has been disapointed with pano before, you may be in for a surprise. Maybe not this year since so much needs to be resurrected, but this should mark the beginning of a major improvement in Pano's riding.

thats what im sayin though, there is alot of potential there but they have never had a decent park manager who knew what they were doin (im not positive, but Im pretty sure the guy who did it before him didnt even bike). It may take a season or two but darcy is just the man to get it back on track.

I think it was better than Fernie last year, and with RCR doing their thing and removing all the stunts this year at fernie it should be way better.
