The last Quebec Cup happened on the last weekend of September. Before the rain, the big downpour, the ugly weather followed by the mud and the cold. We got the hot sunbeams on the skin, the dusty clouds following the riders, the heat of a summer day. It wasn’t autumn anymore, it’s what we called l’été indien. The event was at Vallee du Parc, Shawinigan, happening at the same time than the festival des Couleurs, it attracted people that didn’t have a clue of what was happening, but all amazed by the craziness of the riders. We've got to say, it looks pretty spectacular for someone that never saw downhill racing before. It was also the hardest race of the year, with a mix of technical, drop and jumps, we definitely saw more crashes there than any other race. Overshooting, over the handlebar, in berms, simply not stopping in a curve, we saw all sort of injuries, between the simple bruises, broken nose and broken collarbone (we wish a fast and simple recovery to Sarah Konefall).
Between all of that, it was also almost the end of the season. What happened? Why all those crashes? Maybe it was the race run, it was kind of a tricky one, if the chicken pass weren’t left behind, we all know that we want to do our best in competition right? Was it because it is the end of the season and everyone is tired? Or simply a mix of both? Who knows, but it was a hell of a race!
Heads up to the organizers, Patrick Pratte and Maxime Richard, we all know they are amazing riders, but between running around managing everything, they still took their bike, did the race and won in their own category. It was super nice work and thanks to them, we had one amazing weekend. It was certainly one of the biggest event and the hardest. They put on a lot of work into that race and we all really appreciated it.
The fact that it was Genevieve Baril second Quebec Cup of the year didn’t stop her to finished first at this one!
Lucas Rey-Sierro (Lamacycle|NSBikes) looking pumped to have win the race and the overall!
Lots of emotion for Samuel Thibault (Banshee|Major Cycle) who won the race in the senior elite categorie with an amazing time of 1:55:97
