This past weekend held host to the inaugural Hornby Island Enduro. According to my knowledge, this was the first race held on the island since the famed "Bike Fest" from many years back. The Hornby Enduro was brought to life by Island Cup organizer Chris Makuch with the help of many others, including former bike fest organizer Tig Cross.
If you've never been to Hornby Island before, it's a mix of fast and flowy singletrack, with the occasional jump thrown in; perfect for all skill levels. That's not to say it's not fun for experts either, you simply just ride a little faster. For the 2018 enduro, there were 5 stages in total. The day consisted of three trips to the top of mountain, a stage down the famous "Yer Mom" trail, and mini stage down the refurbished bike fest dual slalom (a crowd favourite for sure).
I was lucky enough to book a campsite down in Tribune Bay which was only a short ride to the trails. It was my first time at Hornby, and it definitely won't be the last. I managed to put together a quick recap of the race from my point of view, and hopefully it will convince you to make the trip out for the Hornby Island Enduro next year!
Huge thanks to everyone that made this race possible!
