As Whistler descends into the midst of summer and the weather heats up, so did the competition during 2018’s 6th edition of Phat Wednesday, presented by Kokanee.

Held on the people’s choice blue trail, affectionately dubbed by locals as the Orient Express, 247 of the Sea-to-Sky’s most avid racers came out to battle the warmth and each other down Ninja Cougar – Karate Monkey – Samurai Pizza Cat – Ho Chi Minh.

Having come so close to top spot so often this season, Remy Metailler made light work of the tight berms, weaving tech sections and off camber corners to take home the Open Male win in a lightning 3:18.858, knocking series leader Chris Kovarik off the top spot for the first time this year.

In a talented field of Master Men, everyone’s favourite bike mechanic and Bike Park team rider Trevor Burke extended his series lead with the nights second fastest time of 3:20.002, ahead of Matthew Wight and Kevin Clarke.

Taking home the Veteran Male category, all the way from Spain was Chus Castellanos, whilst Georgia Astle solidified her series lead and Michele Chang made up ground on Lisa Mason in the Open Female and Master Female categories respectively.

The evenings other stand out performer was without doubt the budding star of Ryan Griffith. Racing in the Grom category (13 and under), Ryan laid out a 3:34.046 to edge out Tegan Cruz, a time that would have put him in the top 25 overall. World Cup 2025 watch out.
