Riders Choice winners are selected based on input from mountain bikers throughout Canada and the United States who participate in a lengthy survey delving into every aspect of their favourite mountain bike trails and destinations. Each spring, the announcement of the winners is a popular and handy guide for planning summer road trips to mountain resort bike parks.

“The award is a great way to kick off summer,” said bike park manager, Cam Sorensen. “Thanks to all our riders who made it happen. Right now, we’re starting to get the park ready – installing bike carriers on the Comet chair and looking forward to getting out to prep the trails in a few weeks." "There are big expansion plans for this summer with continuing work on our signature 30+ kilometre XC loop, Beowulf, which is designed to be a destination ride,” continued Sorensen. “We’re also going to be rebuilding Rock Star. It was the original black diamond flow jump trail in the park and it’s time for a facelift.”

This year’s Riders Choice award comes on top of widespread recognition and accolades for SilverStar’s bike park, including Silver Level Ride Centre status from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and #3 ranked bike park in North America by unofficialnetworks.com. SilverStar is opening its 28th year of bike park operations with an early season bonus weekend on June 18-19. Full summer operations start up on Thursday, June 23 and run seven days a week through to Monday, September 5.

Visitors to the Star this season will enjoy the return of popular events like B.C. Cup and the Mile High Wine and Music Festival, along with a variety of summer camps and festivals. Other summer news includes more flexible season pass offerings in response to guest feedback. Downhill riders can purchase a Parents Season Pass that can be shared by two adults. XC mountain bikers get easier access to the mountain’s upper trails with the new Enduro pass, which provides one chairlift ride per day.

Agree, great park but there are a few inconsistent jumps. Sounds like this may be corrected with the Rock Star rebuild.

@d-man: it's a great park, pro star is sweet, just very dicey hitting jump trails blind once a season on the yearly trip. Pretty fortunate at whistler having jumps that flow!

Rode there about 10years ago? on my hard tail ... was smooth, fast and fun. At that point the rumor was they were having a hard time justifying opening again the next season. Back then it reminded me of when whistler had no braking bumps. Got to make time to get back there.

@modjoe23: Cam is still noted as the Bike Park manager, in many places online. The statement's made by him last week make no mention of him leaving.... www.vernonmorningstar.com/news/378452861.html

@modjoe23: word man. Silverstar is an excellent hill. A little bit of everything for everyone. Their dedication to the hill shows!

@modjoe23: he is the summer manager now he is no longer the lead trail builder

@yz250: This means good things. He will be able to further evolve the bike park, building even better and better things. I rode SSBP back in the late 1990's, early 2000's as a young boy. Sure has come a long ways!
