Words: The Swiss Enduro Series
The Swiss Enduro Series race in the picturesque setting of the Bike Kingdom provided an action-packed race day that tested the limits of the riders. The race offered a spectacle that was almost impossible to beat in terms of drama in the battle for the podium places.
In the Elite Men category, an intense duel was initially expected between series leader Basil Weber and Tim Bratschi.
However, Weber, who had been leading the series so far, was hit by an unfortunate incident on the first stage: his chain popped out, leaving him with a deficit that could no longer be made up. He finished the race in twentieth place.
This paved the way for Tim Bratschi, who secured victory with a commanding performance. Bratschi proved on the first stage that he was ready to go to his absolute limit to take the lead. Behind him, Mirco Vendemmia fought tenaciously and was close on Bratschi's heels.
Unfortunately, however, Vendemmia suffered a defect on the fourth stage that set him back and dashed his prospects of a podium finish.
Tarmo Ryännen's strong performance secured him second place.
While Patrick Lüthi benefited from Vendemmia's bad luck to finish third.
In the women's category, Melanie Pugin dominated the action by winning all stages, proving her class and determination. But even here the race was not without drama.
Delia da Mocogno, who led the series so far, struggled on the second stage with two crashes. But her fighting spirit paid off as she bravely fought her way back to second place on the final stage.
The battle for the top places in the women's category reached its climax on the last stage. Caro Gehrig was just ahead, only 0.5 seconds ahead of Ysaline van Kampen in third place.
But fate struck when Gehrig crashed in the first Rockgarden and had to end the race early.
Katy Winton went fourth.
With a strong field of riders and unexpected twists and turns, the Swiss Enduro Series race in Lenzerheide offered a memorable day of racing that showcased the fascination of enduro mountain biking in all its glory.
The male and female riders showed impressive mastery of their bikes and left the spectators in excitement and admiration.
