Josh Carlson talks about the recent proposal for mountain biking in the Illawarra region of Australia and what it means for the mountain biking community.
I grew up in the Gong back way back then, it was either rugby league, soccer or netball for the girls. We used to have minimal skateparks and the only riding was either lycra clad or some random BMX jumps we built in the bush. The potential Wollongong has for mountain biking has only just started to be discovered these last 5 years and I am glad to see this. Area has bookoo untapped potential and you can literally ride the mountains in the morning and less than 30 minutes later, be swimming at some of the best beaches in NSW.
Go the Gong, great combo there but not to forget Mt Martha/ Arthurs Seat on the peninsula in Melbourne. Riding there last weekend and they have a mix of sanctioned trails and other with a small roll down the hill to some lovely bayside beaches.
People riding there were very friendly and I hear there is 30km of new trails going in the area over the next couple of years.
Good to see some councils in New South Wales listening. Hey Gosford council you dildos why don't you wake up and smell the beans. Voted one of the worst councils running for years with your decrepit geriatric inspired rhetoric ,these ideas developing new opportunities are often based on business models promoting local economies and effectively minimise harm to bushland ..Models worldwide have worked and even resurrected towns. No point writing to Gossie council direct as they have ignored the issues for years. So I rant here.
Hooray, trails!! My wife and i are thinking of moving to the Gong next year, and are hoping it's not too much of a step back from the fantastic trails here in Tassie. I always remember how rad Amiel Cavalier's Wollongong segment was in Compression, keen to try them out!
Have your say!! Get around it!!

Great community and growing trails in Australia
