1996-2000. In 1996, I decided to get serious into mountain biking. I bought this 1996 Rocky mountain Hammer Race and loved it more than life itself.
(This is not my photo. I found it elsewhere on pinkbike.)
Red gripshift srt600 that were terrible, but I thought they were so cool!
RockShox Quadra 21 fork, also terrible, but cool.
Red Tange Cr-mo steel frame. I stayed with steel until I went full suspension.
I rode the hell out of this and replaced the fork with a RockShox Indy SL then a Marzocchi Bomber Z-2. The bomber was a revolutionary fork.
The absolutely crap Sugino cranks were replaced with a Raceface turbine in Rockshox yellow.
Yes, I had bar ends.
The only tires I would run were WTB velociraptors with skinwalls. I still love skinwalls.
I loved, loved, loved this bike.
The bike was stolen in 2000 and I replaced it with a 2000 Rocky Mountain Blizzard
