It’s unfortunate to see companies like Black Diamond shutting down manufacturing in Utah. While cost savings may have played a role, according to a recent interview, the real issue is the lack of innovative technology within the state and even the country. It’s easy to talk about supporting technological advancement in manufacturing, but we need to see more action towards personnel training and infrastructure development. Instead of giving tax breaks to giant companies like Amazon and Google, maybe we should invest in our people and processes to ultimately drive profit.

Many states have programs to attract new businesses, but they often overlook the importance of retaining existing ones. At Alta Racks, building bike racks in Utah has been both a joy and a challenge.
