AT's Showdown: Viewer's Choice Voting

by Andrew Taylor
For this year's showdown each team had six weeks to film, edit and submit a two minute video in order to battle it out for a $9,000 prize purse chosen by Pinkbike users and also a panel of judges.

While Pinkbike users will crown the peoples champion, our panel of judges that includes Devin Schmidt from Root One Productions, Mark Zealand from Hitcase and Long Nguyen Photography will all work together to crown the top three videos based on riding, filming, editing and the overall creativity of each team.

With that being said we're stoked to have our top three finishers (each has won a round earlier in the week) now going head to head for the People's Champion, we hope that you enjoy them and cast your vote!

Here's a little "Behind the Scenes" on the filming for our video. Made a cable cam for $30 that was propelled by a fishin rod along with some funky homemade helmet mounts and downloaded a trial version of Adobe Premier to edit the footage on. We didn't have a $15,000 helicopter, a remote controlled cable cam, microphones, or a legit film crew to help us make this thing, but we made due with what we had. Iggy Pop rules, and partyin is fun. Vote 4 Pedro.

someone seems bitter and a last ditch effort to boost ratings by bashing on another team I thought you were better than that... and a behind the scenes video, is that because your video wasnt enough? .. lol very un professional coming from an athelete i USE to look up to... grow up man. your acting childish. they werent the only company that had that ability, i saw shifted cinema too
  • 29 7
Not bein sour, just wanted to share some insight on what went into our vid, that's all!
  • 18 1
I think Tyler makes a good point, and don't think he's intentionally bashing anyone. They made due with what they had and I'm pretty sure that's what this contest was about, using a frickin iphone to make a sick edit. And a sick edit they made.

McCaul-what share some insight with what went in your video?? you could have left out all the other crap. half of what you wrote went into trying to justify why you should win even though the other video is better... "We didn't have a $15,000 helicopter, a remote controlled cable cam, microphones, or a legit film crew to help us make this thing" you guys had an ALLSTAR line up, THE BEST RIDERS IN THE COMP.

LET YOUR WORK DO YOUR TALKIN INSTEAD OF TRYIN TO JUSTIFY WHILE TRYIN TO CRAP ON ANOTHER TEAM.

i dont care either way, i like all three videos, I just think its crap that you had to take it to that level... thats immature. learn to be humble and not a tool.

Ouch haha. I dont think he was being sour at all, just trying to share what went into his vdieo

just chill guys...all these videos are epic let your votes do the talking.

Mr. McCaul is just stoked as always. Thanks for the videos! Smile

I love the postal crew video. It reminds me of those grainy old fleshwound snowboarding films with Plamer = rock n roll, ride hard and party harder!

Iggy Pop makes up for your whining TmaC!
Just kidding, I wanna be your dog. Wink

AzPHXrider, show some respect to someone who helped the sport become what it is today.

AzPHXrider, at least T-Mac is f*cking literate, you tool. Bas is as good a rider as T-Mac & his crew & if Bas wins he gets the whole prize just for making a video. He hasn't really been on the contest scene in quite a while & he made it pretty clear why that is. Also considering T-Mac was royally f*cked at Rampage, I can understand him wanting everyone else to understand how he sees what he's doing & why it's rad. It is an attempt to edge out the others, but if you're gonna hate all over someone, go do it to someone that deserves it, like Brian Lopes or Cam Zink. I found Bas's edit to be pretty weak knowing what he's capable of & how much coin is on the line. Additionally, out of the 1st round edits, Postal wouldn't have had my vote if I had shown up in time to vote, but here we are. All things ignored, except the edits, Postal looks the best outta the 3 to me. T-Mac obviously wants to win, but I don't see any trampling of other competitors here & there's nothing stopping the others from showing what kind of additional ingenuity (if any) went into making their clips. I never saw value in a fishing pole until I saw what they used it for.

Why hasn't Bas been on the contest scene? classic crankworx moment in his post win interview "i would thank my sponsors, if i had any"!
  • 2 1
I loved the postal crew video, you guys definitely know how to have some fun and SHRED!
  • 23 7
 all filmed with SHitcase
  • 8 2
pretty incredible to think...some of those shots are super clear, and some remind me of gopro but they must be using special iPhone lenses...Hands down the stable-ness of the heli shots and the idea behind Paul Basagoitia video wins me over...the other two have a lot of bangers but I'm into how good of a cinema feel you can achieve with an iphone! Great job!
  • 1 0
We were are all using the same lens that's on the hitcase! Lighting, stability, focus, and the model of your iphone can make a world of a difference

Hands down Paul's video deserves the win. It was filmed a lot better then the other videos. It shouldn't be based on a popularity vote, it should be based on the quality of the video.
  • 11 1
Postal crew for the win. Insane riding and solid filming with a great vibe.
  • 7 0
so torn.... postal crew threw down, paul bass wins by a long shot for filming quality, and a shovel's life wins for creativity! No idea who to vote for
  • 9 3
While I'm a huge fan of Postal Crew and their banger session, the filming quality is not there - it is a slapped together submission and not worthy of a win.
  • 12 3
Yeah because it was filmed by the guys riding in the video, not some film crew with a helicopter. Got me more stoked than the Reno edit personally
  • 3 0
@bikesandfun... If speaking from a level of sheer excitement generated from watching the film, I would tend to agree with you. However, if evaluation is strictly from that context, many other submissions should still remain on the finals podium. With six weeks to film and edit, I expect a little more from the Postal Crew as they are experienced film professionals - especially with a $9K purse. I would have liked to see a submission from the Coastal Crew.
  • 6 0
Keep in mind that rampage was right in the middle of those 6 weeks
  • 4 0
Coastal Crew are rather tied up at the moment creating a bike park. Doesn't really leave much time for making a film.
  • 7 4
Another contest were names made the winner. Please bring back the original AT's Showdown or create a format where the creativity, the riding and filming counts!
  • 1 0
Very Torn between all 3. Postal had a killer session with The Stooges rolling Paul had killer camera work and Johnny Cash And Shovel had a killer concept plus they are my hometown boys.
  • 1 1
All the videos are great and in every contest there is only one top winner. Reno-Shoot'n is hands down the best winner! Anybody with an objective eye can see this. It has originality all over it. From the back drop, on location, the excellent choice of song and firearms! What more do can you want?! The riding is excellent, the terrain is raw and the filming is superb! What I am most attracted by it...it has appeal for all ages and clearly displays the true overall spirit of what MTB is all about. "Kudos" to "AT" and Hit Case for sponsoring such an event. It should sell many products in the MTB field. What I don't like about it is the "sour grapes" talked by some. This is fun competition. Not "somebody whipped a booger on me and I'm telling!"...Sure!

The fishing rod cable cam contraption looks bad ass!!! Reminds me of something Data from the Goonies would have built! Postal Crew FTW!!!

so now hitcase has completely taken all of contour's sponsors and stolen their "100% shot with" thing?

can extinct companies sue for intellectual property theft and copyright infringement?
