North East Italian DH Championship 2015 - Montecchio Maggiore

The last round of the 2015 North-eastern Italian DH Championship took place in Montecchio Maggiore, province of Vicenza, on the 2nd of August. The Montecchio Maggiore Urban Downhill race was named after the small town that hosted the event, since the last part of the track passes along its stairways and alleys.The starting gate was positioned in Giulietta's Castle court, (you heard about Giulietta and Romeo before, right ?), situated on the top hill, just a few hundred meters above Montecchio Maggiore.


Just outside the castle walls, the riders took a very narrow footpath that runs between rocks and vines and down a couple of ancient stairways. Riding down the narrow footpath was made even more difficult by the heavy rain that came down the night before the race, leaving a slippery topsoil on the ground and making it hard to stay on the bike, especially during the very first practice runs.



The Montecchio Maggiore Urban Downhill was a very important event for the racers for two main reasons: first, being the last race of the North East Italian Downhill Championship, it determined the final rank for this season and second, race winners were honoured with the title of "Regional Champions of Veneto" and a dedicated shirt.It was undoubtedly a great racing Sunday for Chunk Team: some great results on both race and overall championship came in, and the after race party was even better !




MICHELE LAGHETTO, GT Bicycles was the fastest racer of the team and ended 4th in the overall amateur ranking.
DARIO CERISARA, Polygon Bikes arrived 2nd in the Master1 ranking, followed by SAMUEL GROPPO ( Polygon Bikes ) in 3rd position.
PAOLO SBERZE, Ancillotti finished 6th in the Master4 ranking.
NICOLO VERONESE, Kona Bicycle Company ended 5th in his category.
RANDY DALLA VECCHIA, Lapierre chose to make only one out of two runs because of his previously injured knee.

What about the final championship results??!!.

DARIO CERISARA placed himself 1st in the Master1 classification of NorthEast Italian Donwhill Championship and NICOLO VERONESE took the win in the Cadet category.


MICHELE LAGHETTO and SAMUEL GROPPO both took the 2nd place, respectively in the Elite Master and Master1 ranking, while PAOLO SBERZE was 3rd in Master4.It was overall a great season for the team and, thanks to these awesome results,CHUNK came out as one of the best downhill teams of Northeastern Italy.



After the race, our riders had a great time partying with the Caffè Golin waiters. Sun, downhill, good music and hot girls .... Can you ask for any better? See you next season!
