Better Late Then Never(Part 1 of 2)

My name is D.J. York and I live in Maine in the north east U.S.,and I am 39 years old.As a kid in the 80's we didn't have the sport of DH but my friends and I would spend hours on our BMX bikes hitting(and crashing)on a jump we built on the side of the road in front of my house. Then when I was 11 my dad bought me a 70cc trail bike witch I proceeded to jump, crash and pulverize into the ground in just over a year!!!Then soon after it was High School, friends,GIRLS and lot's of PARTYING...and then Adulthood...UGH!!! Let's just say life wasn't much fun and I couldn't understand why until one day in the spring of '00 a friend of mine asked if I wanted to go ride his extra dirt bike with him and some friends so I went and had a BLAST.....Now I knew what I was living for fer sure!!!Two wheels, dirt and air time had my name written all over them. Unfortunately I had to sell my '97 KX 125 I only had for a year in Sept.'01 because I tore my acl in my left knee and had to pay bills. When my knee healed enough(without surgery)I began to pedal a XC bike on the road to rehab my knee and one day in '03 or '04 I took it down a power line trail and while bombing down some steep rocky hills I thought "This is a lot like MX but better in ways"...I was loving it. Without a computer I didn't know what the sport was doing besides a few mags. here and there but I rode and rode hard everyday and on top of getting in good shape I was having a blast and gaining skills at the same time! Fast Forward to Spring of '08 and after running a few hard tails into the ground...a Giant Iguana x2(broke the frame in two places Giant warrantied the frame)and a Specialized Stumpjumper...I purchased a new Giant Trance(first full susp.)but that wasn't enough and I could tell I was destroying a 1,200.00 bike FAST!!! They had a used '06 Iron Horse Yakuza at the shop when I bought the Trance so the next spring I was riding it and going big and building bigger and bigger stuff to hit because the bike I had finally matched the riding I wanted to do!!! Rode the whole year of '09 watching Elemental and getting stoked on life. Then I met Joe,one of the guys that started the Congin Jumps in Westbrook who told me about Ernie's Cycle Shops Winterbike Series and I said WHAT!!! Race bikes in the snow...AND jump and do tricks????!!!! I gotta be part of this I said....Here is my vid. from the last round in 2010(my first edit ever)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHNB6XgN9IM There I met more people and found out about the U.S.Open....(You mean to tell me I can go race with the PRO'S???!!!!)....I'm In!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baduTHKjwCE Racing is fun and the U.S. Open was amazing...Esp. the "Rockgarden"but I've never been super competitive. In my days of MX I really got into watching the Freeride vids....They were like action sports rock videos!!!So when I got a computer...FINALLY June 1st 2010 I already had my YT ch. and found out about HMBP in N.H. and the freeride contest called the Claymore Challenge(had to check that out).....Sorry about the loud audio at the end I was right by the speakers!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAAciE_2Yr4 After that and buying NWD 09 I knew what I wanted to do with my life....RIDE AND FILM. I bought the best camera I could afford and went to it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv7czX-iWco I went to Winterbike in 2011 then the "Open"and Claymore again but there was one other big east coast event I had not made it to yet....The Windham World Cup Race! Stay Tuned for Part 2....The plot THICKENS!!!
