Through the Lens - Jernej Zadravec

Jernej Zadravec is a newcomer to the world of photography and has allready made some big moves in just two years with his photo work. Check out a short interview and some of his work.Name: Jernej Zadravec

How long have you been shooting?
I have been shooting since early 2009 when my friend inspired me with photography.

Do you go to school for photography, or is it all self taught?
Everything is self taught. I also got photography in school this year, however the teacher didn't make the impression that he knows what he is talking about.
I’d imagine your camera bag has been getting loaded up. What are you working with these days?
My setup is pretty basic at the moment. I'm shooting with Canon 5D, 50D for backup, 50mm f/1.8, 70-200 f/4. On the wishlist are 100mm f/2, 15mm fisheye, flash setup and a quality prime lens, either a 35mm or higher grade 50mm.
Do you have a dream setup that you wish you had or are you pretty satisfied with what you have?
Besides the extra lenses and flash setup, I mentioned before I would love to have a 1D mk II or mk III body to replace the 50D. Also when I "grow up" someday a medium format camera would be nice to have.
What would you say your favorite shot of this past year is? Any reason it stands out to you?
Thats a tought question. Either Miha Perne's tuck no hander or Domen Fekonja's 180 over the spine

Do you have any crazy stories about run ins with cops, security, or random people?
Sometimes the cops come when we shoot street riding and write our information down, then they tell us not to destroy anything and leave. Nothing to run from.
Do you shoot outside of BMX much?
Yeah, my schooling is from a fine arts standpoint, so I am always working on projects that pertain to my personal life and social surroundings. I think coming from a fine arts perspective as opposed to being trained for commercial photography.
What are your plans looking like for 2011?
That's a good question. We are planning a trip to Barcelona in spring so I really cross my fingers on this. I have to finish school too because I'm lazy as hell haha! Otherwise I just want to shoot, ride and chill with my friends as much as possible.
Who are some of your biggest influences when it comes to photography?
Vincent Perraud, Devon Hutchins, Fred Murray, Eric Wyatt Palmer.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Finish highschool and keep on developing in photography. In general, I would love to maintain a living off shooting photos and just be happy, nothing crazy.
