Words: Brett Harrison

PASHA is a film about Tanzanian cyclist and now coach Richard Laizer. Laizer is an inspiration to youth and is committed to cyclist development in Tanzania.

Laizer works with Red Knot Development to empower young Tanzanian cyclists by fostering their growth within the sport, while preparing them for life itself. Laizer understands that healthy, supported children and youth are motivated to become successful and dedicated members of society, and he's working to make this happen.

"He's changing minds, not only among the youth, but among the parents. And changing minds is the first step in changing lives," says Brett Harrison, Red Knot Development's executive director, but more importantly Laizer's friend and partner in the work.

Red Knot Development instills values and cultivates mental fortitude in youth through the sport of cycling, preparing them not just for the challenges of the race, but for life itself. The group's current support of cycling extends to two local teams -- Arusha Shifters and Red Knot Tanzania -- and they are working towards developing a more comprehensive program which will start children at younger ages and provide older athletes higher level international opportunities.

Leonia is one of our youth development riders in Arusha Tanzania -- and the future of Tanzanian cycling.
