My name is Levi Goodall and I am a mountain bike dirt jump/ skatepark/ slopestyle rider based in Invercargill, New Zealand about two hours south of Queenstown. Back in 2016, I went on a 8 day trip to Australia with the plan of making this video. Unfortunately, 2 days into this trip I had a bad crash on a flair and ended up tearing my ACL and meniscus in my right knee. This put an end to my riding trip and I was unable to get any clips or riding done on that trip. When I returned home I ended up seeing a specialist who booked me in for a ACL and meniscus reconstruction surgery.
After this, I had a 9 month recovery time of intensive rehab before I was able to get back on my bike. I was able to get back onto my bike with no real issues but a massive loss in confidence. I slowly worked my way back into things and had a great spring and summer in 2018 of riding. Unfortunately, I found out that my meniscus did not heal properly and I required a second surgery in January 2019. Luckily this surgery only required a 6 week recovery time. After this I spent the winter riding my local skatepark and airbag getting ready for another attempt at a riding trip to Australia. This time the trip went amazingly well and I received no injuries and was able to do some big tricks I had not done since hurting my knee in 2016. I was super happy to be able to do these tricks again and add some new ones to my bag during this trip and I finally feel like I am progressing on my bike again. I am really happy with the clips that we got filmed and really happy with the outcome of this edit.
None of it would have been possible without my good friend Andrew Nilbett and his wife who hosted me in Australia for 5 nights, as well as drive me to and from spots and film all of the clips in this edit. If you are ever in the Melbourne/Shepparton area in Australia look him up, he has an amazing backyard set up and knows all the local spots! Also a shoutout goes to Aussy Steeze and the boys who hosted us at the Bendigo trails and keep them running, check them out if you are in the area! I would also like to say a huge thank you to Samsun Cycles in Melbourne. They were able to sort out my broken crank at very short notice on an Australian public holiday (Grand Final Day) and saved me missing out on a day of riding during my trip. I would highly recommend them if you are ever in Melbourne!
