-Eastern States Cup #4 - Sugarbush Resort, VT

Once again we have been on the road, traveling all over New England following the Eastern States Cup from stop to stop. Working as a team, progressing as a team, having fun and most importantly riding our bikes with our friends.

Continuing our racing and busy schedule we ended up deep in Warren, Vermont for the 4th stop of the Eastern Sates Cup.

We arrived Friday evening, late enough to catch a view of the Milky Way and some of the clearest stars we've ever seen.

The following day, the sun was out and the forecast looked clear for the first time since May.
Sugarbush is always a fun place to ride. They put together a course that was long and challenging, which had most riders itching to get out on the hill to ride and practice. -photo by Paul Hanson

Sunday: race day. The sun was out once again but the forecast was calling for some rain by race time. It literally started raining just as Scott stepped into the start gate. It didn't end up affecting the course conditions for his run but, by the time the pros were in the gate the track had become wet and slippery.

-Eastern States Cup #5 - Mount Snow, VT

The very next weekend we were headed back to the Red Clover State of beautiful Vermont for stop number five!! Once more, the weather was fantastic and the dust was out. The Oliver Racing pit was quiet this weekend with only half the team out for the race. Andrew and Eva were out road riding for a charity event, while Matt and Kathy stayed home to nurse a hematoma that Matt had sustained from practice the previous weekend at Sugarbush.

The Mount Snow course was very similar to the one we raced on the previous year, with a little bit of everything to keep riders happy. The course was fast and rigorous, riders had to pedal and work for it in the grassy sections to keep their speed up. "It is so much fun out there, I've lost track of how many laps I've done!!" -Scott on Saturday about the track and weather.

-Eastern States Cup #6 - Plattekill, NY

After a nice weekend off and a fun 4th of July spent on the lake, we hit the road with Plattekill Mountain as our destination.
At Plattekill there is always something exciting that goes down when the sun sets and being that it was 4th of July weekend, fireworks were in full effect.

More than one of these made an appearance on Friday evening, the show lasted a good 30 or 45 minutes.

The Eastern States Cup held the E*Thirteen East Coast Showdown, which played host to three events; Super-D, Enduro, and Downhill. The three spread across the weekend starting with Enduro on Saturday, Super-D on Sunday morning and DH on Sunday afternoon. The Eastern States Cup decided to use the same DH course that Plattekill had put together back in May, the only difference were the weather conditions - this time around it was sunny vs. cloudy, hot vs. freezing, and beautiful vs. the miserable rain and snow from before. Needless to say the track was fast and fun!!

The weekend was going smooth for everyone until a trip to the ER had to be made. Scott came down hard on his saddle during his first practice run on Saturday morning, resulting in a compressed disc, the inability to walk or stand without assistance and a trip home on Sunday morning. Not to worry - he is on the road to recovery and is walking without crutches again. Expect to see him riding again before the season is over.
