Life and Times of Pure Cycle Round 3 and Pure 32

Third Annual Pure 32 Sale. Canada's only endurance bike sale lights up Calgary, Alberta.

Some of us out there like to use their endurance strictly for riding purposes. Whether this means a huge fire road grunt before the good stuff on Moose Mountain or entering a crazy downhill race with climbing in it on a French glacier, that's up to you. However here at Pure Cycle we have taken this one step further! We are now using our endurance to sell bikes to all our great customers. Back in 2008 we were tossing ideas around for a cool summer sale or some kind of festival event and we decided the only way to really test our might was to sell bikes and all the trimmings for 32 hours non-stop.

More details inside,Now really this was just the product of some hyped up, after work talk on a busy Saturday, but we mentioned it to a few friends and customers and got a mixed response. Some said this would be cool and others were not sure. The overwhelming vibe seemed to be that this was crazy and there was no way we would actually do a sale this ridiculous. Well the quickest way to get us going is to doubt our resolve, and in no time the Pure 32 Hour Sale was spawned. Like some mythical beast this sale took on life, and has become an annual test of our mental strength, wrenching endurance and cheese smokie tolerance. We decided halfway through the first Pure 32 that the hardest working staffer would win a bottle of Hobgoblin for their efforts. Now if you have had Hobgoblin you may think this a dubious honor, but it has become a sought after title. Check out our boy Jebadiah just prior to tasting his prize:

Jeb worked like a wild man for this bottle, but it was not until his victory speech was complete that he realized that drinking it was mandatory as a salute to your fellow Pure 32 survivors. He took it like a man though I tell you.

Year Two was even more out of hand as people were actually believing this sale was going to happen after they saw the show with their own eyes in year one. More bikes, more people and a full court press of cheese smokies, burgers and other street meat was brought to bear and the Second Annual Pure 32 was off and running. This year we brought in some added incentive to stay up and hit the Red Bull by offering Midnight Madness half price tunes. We were not sure what the turn out would be as this is not exactly when you would normally get your ride detailed and set up. Well the turn out was pretty impressive and we were going off until about 5 am to handle the line up.

Check the shop out afterwards. Its seen some action and we even have an upside down bike happening. This is a sure sign that you are going hard!

You know you have been working the Pure 32 Hour Sale when you hit the sack on bike boxes under a table out back! This box probably felt like a waterbed. Curtis takes a break after a 24 hour shift on the sales' floor. This is how it's done troops.

Now along comes year three and we ask ourselves what can be done to ramp it up even more!? Tons of bikes from Trek, Fisher, Electra, Devinci, Knolly, Santa Cruz, Transition and Blk Mrkt? Check. Mega loads of clothing deals? Check. Giant piles of accessories? Check. Bomb shelter levels of smokies on board? Check. One luke warm Hobgoblin? Check and Check! After going through the list we decided to invite the radio station down to handle the PR while we do the rest. Tune in to X92.9 for some press on this event!

If you are in our neck of the woods and you think you can handle it, come down for some deals, some high fives and of course some BBQ. See www.purecycle.ca for details!
