PRESS RELEASE: ThredboWe are welcoming the biggest number of competitors ever to the 23rd Australian Mountain Bike Interschools at Thredbo, kicking off on Wednesday 23 March. The event has seen a record number of entries with over 1000 students from over 220 schools all ready for five days of exciting gravity mountain bike action.
School-aged students from as far as Tweed Heads and down to Victoria will compete in five mountain biking disciplines: Maxxis All-Mountain Assault, Fox Flow Motion Cup, Oakley Cannonball Downhill, Rockshox Pump Track Challenge and Osprey Cross Country. The championships include four age divisions with competitors from eight years of age through to nineteen years of age.
“Thredbo Resort is excited to be bringing back the Australian Mountain Bike Interschools Championships for its 23rd instalment. Attracting over 1,000 competitors from over 220 schools from around the country, this year's event will be, by far the biggest yet," said Thredbo Resort General Manager Stuart Diver.
“As well as delivering significant economic benefits to the local visitor economy, events of this scale assist with further cementing Thredbo and the Snowy Mountains’ reputation as Australia's premier mountain biking destination,” continued Mr Diver.
Day one on Wednesday is practice day, giving students the chance to test out the trails before races kick off on Thursday. Day two will see the Maxxis All-Mountain Assault make its Interschools debut. This time trial requires riders to take on a gruelling 4km undulating descent.
The Fox Flow Motion Cup will be held on Friday, an approximately 4.5 kilometres track that descends 465 vertical meters through a mix of open berms and long undulating straights.
Saturday's doubleheader will include the crowd favourite Rockshox Pump Track Challenge and iconic Oakley Cannonball Downhill. The event will then wrap up with the Osprey Cross Country, a 2.5 kilometres loop around Friday Flat with a ratio of 70/30 uphill to downhill. It is set to be one full five days of action.
