Whistler Crankworx Dual Slalom 2019 practice

Whistler Crankworx Dual Slalom 2019 — my third practice run w/Thomas Slavik. You can see the difference in acceleration considering his pineapple-size calves and my skinny forearm-size spinal cord injury calves. Oh, and my slow 25/28psi D521/Minion Maxx Grip DH tires that were 3.5 pounds heavier than his Minion / Minion SS Maxx Terra EXO 30/33psi tires with DT hubs & rims.

Various spots around Maui, including a solo ride up and down Haleakala. Unfortunately, we didn’t video the 2 big 20-25 foot tabletop-jump manual-landers on Pineapple Express (the biggest I’d landed on my XC bike, all the way down the landing) — as my brother and I had been riding for 3.5 hours and we’d just run out of water. Next time!

20 years on, I went back to UW in Seattle & rode the same spots on my updated 2003 M1. I rode just as well, but wasn’t able to fully ride the manual out into Red Square like I did once in 2000. I wasn’t doing gaps today, but I was happy that I could ride fairly well after an incomplete spinal cord injury from snowboarding at Whistler in 2005 — hence the tiny, weak calves :)

Went on a quick XC ride, showing the parents (who filmed) some trails to hike on — been trying to get them off the roads and into the forest away from cars, as they aim for 10,000+ steps a day. I’m on my 2012 Pivot Mach 4 26” XC rig, 120mm RS fork with Avalanche cartridge and 100mm rear, full XTR with XT 4-pistons. 27.5 pounds with pedals and 125mm dropper, but it shreds for what it is.

First ride (XC) in 7 months after injury

Went to the local spot, 3 miles from my place...first ride in 7 months after an ankle-overuse injury at the Whistler Crankworx dual slalom (a tendon injury from overuse with an incomplete spinal cord injury — was having too much fun on the dual slalom). All first & second takes, only had about an hour to roll around and film some spots.

Seattle weeknight XC ride, August 2019. Only had 90 minutes to hike with buddies and film some spots, all 1st & 2nd takes. Nothing special aside from the full-XC-saddle-height manuals and manual-landers. Former Pro DH racer w/a T12 incomplete spinal cord injury from snowboarding at Whistler — similar injury to Paul Basagotia’s, just slightly less permanent neurological deficits.
