After 11 months of "I wish camp was here", and a whole lot of work by EVERYONE involved in COC, The Camp of Champions 2011 is on.
Rob Dunnet, Sam Pinner, Gord, Aimee, and Allie were all pinning it to get everything ready in time for the campers arrival last Sunday. Everything magically fell into place, campers arrived and it was "Game On!" for 2011.
We've blown out the sides of the Compound to make it bigger and better than ever before. We changed our dirt jumps to wood jumps because we wanted something that was more "Switch upable" so as campers progressed we could tweak the lines to get the most progression possible. There's a big line and a small line that lead into the new bigger better mulch pit. There is also three different lips that can be hit on the Big Air Bag, so no matter what your ability level, you will be able to send it and progress. There is also a couple of monster booters into the Big Air Bag and the Mulch Pit for the coaches to learn new tricks for Crankworx. Because more fun is more fun we also added a whole pile of new features for goofing off when you are too burnt to ride. Sumo wrestling, Jousting and a few other things have been added to our list of things to do other than ride.
On the mountain the riding has been awesome but muddy with the rain and melting snow. Everyone has been benefiting from the One-On-One sessions to work on what they have been learning in the "Morning clinics". What the "Morning Clinics" are, is everyone fills out a form when they arrive at COC, that they give to their coach with their goals for the camp. Then we tailor our "Morning Clinics" to working on those lists with the campers so that when we open it up in the afternoons with faster laps everyone has the fresh knowledge bubbling in their heads, a bed of knowledge to build on and a new comfort level that they didn't have before. The progression so far this week has been incredible. Everyone has blown their lists out of the water, or mud actually.
Nic Genovese is our Camp videomaker this summer and he will be dropping finely polished riding nuggets that will get you stoked to come to Whistler and I will be dropping "The Sound of Summer" Videos that are quick an dirty to give you the feel of what went on that day or the last couple days. Nic has been logging the gold footy and will drop an edit soon.
Stewart Medford is our new Camp Photographer has been killing it in the Bike Park and The Compound with his fresh eyes that will bring you the taste and feel of "Being a Camper".
Stay tuned for a month of great riding, good times, great edits, quickie edits, great photos and all the mayhem we can pack into a week in Whistler.
