Why We Ride

There is something about discovery and adventure that strikes us all. This momentum drives us forward in our lives. Although the experiences are different, the feeling remains the same. The bike is just another way to experience the life, a lens to frame the world around you. It’s finding your own way through a beautiful world that for some people goes undetected. The incredible view reminds you that you’re human and it can be a humbling experience. Feeling freedom like this is tough to turn down and the experience of tranquility easily sorts out the places one would rather be. The adrenaline rush isn’t bad either!

The feeling of the rest of the world drifting away is something we can all appreciate. Age doesn’t matter alongside gender or size; it’s something that is universal and translates flawlessly in any language. Whether it’s your first jump or hundredth decent, the feelings are all the same. The triumph of improvement drives us forward…

Biking can provide us with some of the best friends in the world. Having someone to share the ride with can make all the difference. Whether it’s teammates progressing each other to new heights, riding with your friend or partner, joining rider trains, or riding with a four legged companion; happiness is best shared so this joy is something that’s naturally infectious.

Trail building is one of the best ways to give back or create your vision. Without trail builders, we wouldn’t have progressed to where we are today. They shape the environment the way they interpret it and to make it into an extension of their style. Some of us will venture off into the wild with shovels, pick axes, and saws to create manicured jumps, perfect flowing berms, technical lines, or fast single track. They will not last forever so it is important to enjoy them while they’re around. Trails are hidden gems, lost and found, near perfect, or dismantled. Meticulously detailed and well thought flowing trails can inspire another rider to pick up a spade and create their own vision. Trail builders give us another challenge to conquer and another place to ride.

We all can get caught up in the day to day life routine. Sometimes we loose sight of what’s important. We forget perspective, to take a step back from it all and take it in. One can overlook the adventure that makes things enjoyable but its when you return with a sense of play that things become fruitful; life with variation. The opportunity to feel that bit of joy that makes the tough times worth going through and the good ones even better.

In the end, we all have to answer to the same questions… What kind of story do you want to tell? What kind of story do you want to live? Did you enjoy it? Coupled with the pattern, chaos, order, and paradox of life, it encourages us to move forward. This is why we ride.
