PinkBike is temporarily camping out at the Advil Outdoor Adventure Show this weekend at BC Place in Vancouver. This show typically brings big crowds for the real beginning of biking season on the balmy Canadian West Coast. For our interest, there is a trials demo featuring some of the youngest western Canadian trials riders, dirt jumping, which is typically a big draw for the crowds on Saturday and Sunday, and the North Shore challenge complete with stunts, burms, drops and tons of dirt. Here at the PinkBike booth, I’m gazing out over the typical groups of guys looking for the Drop-In gang to sign some autographs, a bunch of golfers nailing the balls into the way-too-close nets, and Radek…making episode 3 of Drop-In right here in the booth! Yup, it’s been a pretty quiet day so far – the biggest draw for the biking crowd tends to be the dirt jumps and unfortunately, although they looked pristine upon arrival, the dirt was too wet and continues to be so soft, the jumps got chewed. It’s 7:30pm Friday night and a bunch of riders attempt to fix the problem with carpets, plywood, and yup – they are nailing the landing in place in one of these pics:

Although the Big Air is open to amateurs, it seems only the best amateurs will take on the pros later this weekend. Translation: the hits are too large for those of us who don’t do this full-time therefore the actual numbers of jumpers is way down this year. A little disappointing since I remember last year the jumper turn-out was bigger last year and even us girls were hitting the hip jump… The North Shore course is also feeling the rath of the wet dirt – you sink into it upon landing, and can’t keep much speed going around the burms. The good thing about all this? They've opted to cut one of the 3 DJs (stay tuned for some more pics) to make things go smoother. Also, with a few overnight hours of drying time, the DJ’s should be good to go first thing Saturday. All your favorite companies are present and I hear the sticker collecting here is hot!

If you’re in Vancouver with no plans for the weekend, make your way to the Advil Outdoor Adventure Show at B.C. Place near downtown Vancouver and check out PinkBike’s booth – complete with race trailer from this past summer, Big Screen TV playing the latest New World Disorder and other of your favorite videos. Just so you know, Drop-In season 3 is not quite finished – rumor is it’s another 5 weeks away. But you can pre-order it at the booth for $55 and Saturday, the Drop-In members will all be present for autographs, photo-ops and even some trials and dirt jumping – see you this weekend!
