Ride Guide hits Calgary/Canmore, Alberta

Last weekend, when the weather was still blue skies and 22+ degrees, Ride Guide moved through Alberta hitting up places like Canmore, Canada Olympic Park and Calgary South. What impressed me the most was the talent available to show off some of the best riding places in the Province. Watch for the Alberta episode, third week in June on Global TV...Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta, also opened it's high-speed quad chair for the rippers at the park and it's put-you-at-the-top-of-the-hill time has been cut from 10 minutes on the old double chair, to a meager 3 minutes. Set up very much like the Whistler chairs, every second chair has been replaced with a bike rack where you load your bike yourself and hop on the next chair. Getting to the top has never been easier! The best part? It's open on weekends and on Wednesday evenings as well.


Ride Guide rolled in late morning and was organized by Bike Park Technical Advisor, Sean Simpson. We quickly hit the trails and filmed some of the best riders COP had to offer.

Overall, I think this episode of Ride Guide will help put Alberta on the map for riding destinations in Canada. Although not quite the Whistler destination of choice, anyone looking for some less touristy locations might head our way. Consider our Rocky Mountain, world-class destination for not only sight-seeing, hiking, mountain climbing and Banff.... but for our vast variety in biking experiences. Not only is the cross-country riding some of the best in terms of variety in length of rides, difficulty and scenery, but our freeriding is still mostly uncommercialized shuttle-friendly quiet locations that, quite frankly, kick ass.
