Registrations open later this month for the inaugural NZ MTB Rally, the new Trans-Format Enduro that throws Helicopters, Boat-Rides, and 4x4 Shuttles in to the mix of this week-long 'Proper Kiwi Backcountry Enduro Adventure'.
To drum up the excitement before registration on 20th August, organisers trailAddiction (the crew behind the
Trans-Savoie and
Enduro2 Pairs-Format Series) have released a teaser video which was shot during recce missions for the event, over the past 4 years.
Aside from the impressive logistics on offer, a draw of The NZ MTB Rally is the promise of discovering a relatively untouched area of New Zealand - The Top of the South Island (Nelson - Marlborough - Tasman). You've probably all heard and seen images from NZ's established bases of Queenstown and Rotorua, but Nelson has always remained more of a local's hidden gem, certainly under the international radar. The NZ MTB Rally aims to change that, and pretty quickly too.
Only 80 all-inclusive spots are available due to the complex logistics and remote base-camp locations (in cabins and lodges, not tents). A further 40 self-supported entries are available, which include everything in the all-inclusive package, minus food and accommodation.
Actually, make that 79 slots on the all-inclusive, since Pinkbike's very own Matt Beer has already bagged himself an entry for the 9-16 March 2024 race. You can expect a full report as to if this event manages to live up to some rather huge expectations.
Pricing is confirmed at NZD$3600 (AUS$3300 / CAD$2900 / USD$2250 / €2020) for the all-inclusive package, which is quite a sum, but very competitive with other multi-day enduro races (especially considering the added running costs of helicopters and boats).
More details and info on how to register are available on the
NZ MTB Rally Website.
