Tanaphon Jarupeng, nicknamed Por, but better known as “Golden Boy,” suffered a severe crash while out riding with friends at the Suphanburi DH track on Sunday afternoon. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed there to his injuries shortly after. Golden Boy, 26, was the reigning national Elite DH champion and had been for several years running. He also took the Asian Championship in 2011.
An incredibly talented bike rider, he was a tireless competitor on track, and everyone’s friend off the track. He lived and loved life to the fullest, and was a very welcome guest at events around South-East Asia.
Although he still had several years of competing at the highest level to come, with a maturity that belied his young age, Por had already begun to look ahead to his future after competing. He opened a bike shop in his hometown of Chainat and recently started a series of mountain biking training classes for all levels and all ages.
Our thoughts go out to his loved ones, his family and his many friends. Golden Boy’s death leaves a big void in the community.
RIP, Golden Boy …
