Winter is a season where Edmontonians turn to winter sports or go into hibernation. I am one of the latter, and so wrapped in blankets huddled at my computer I’ve been going through all the footage I’ve stored trying to stay sane. As ex-addicts know, withdrawal is the hardest part; for me I’ve been taking that footage and watching it over and over until I decided to make an edit in order to combat the urge to pull out my bike and ride in the apartment. Over Christmas break 2012 my brother and I spent half a day constructing a stabilizer of sorts for my phone. It certainly helps with the quality of the video by reducing a lot of the shake. However the iPhone does not take the clearest shot unless the camera is stationary. Running or even walking produces a slight blur

3 PVC pipe sections make up a gimbal pivot.
That said it takes some getting used to and that is probably very apparent in these two “edits.” Hopefully the Edmonton trials scene can be represented a bit with what has been captured here. And be sure there is more to come – I have all winter to cry freezing tears in the -30º temps, and a lot of footage to edit.Didn’t get to ride much with Darren over this year, which is too bad because he certainly has a nice style of riding and is a super awesome guy. This edit shows how rough getting back into it can be; we are all pretty rusty and unflattering. (And awfully pale)
