Since the winter has hit: The Cadence Cafe Wall of Fame will now be changing format. Over the winter, we will feature photo essays on the great riding from the summer to keep things warm for next summer...

So, read the story - then head over to Cadence Cafe (6047 Bowness Road) to have a hot coffee, check out the freeriding pics on exhibit, and think warm thoughts about riding...

This weeks feature: Golden Cedar House Heli Drop!
The riding in Golden is some of the best around: so what could possibly make it better? Having a helicopter as a shuttle vehicle!

Once in a while, Scott Belton of Adrenalin Descents, owner of the fabulous Cedar House restaurant will hook a lucky few riders up with a heli-shuttle to the peak of Mount 7.
Its an epic adventure: the helicopter picks you up right out back of Scotts restaurant, and in 7 minutes, drops you off right below the peak of Mount 7. The wildest part is watching the chopper come in to land on the ridge, and then blast up and over the edge, down the side of the mountain.

Scott has cut an epic trail that runs right from the peak, down to the patio of his restaurant. The ride starts with a phenomenal vertigo-inducing decent down a scree slope, which features wide-open mind bending views of the entire Golden valley. The scree decent culminates in a 6 foot rock huck. The huck is perfect, but its scary, as you are launching into the wide-open scree covered bowl – there are no trees: nothing to give you a frame of reference for the distance.

After that, the trail blasts down through the tree line down a series of super-steep pitches. The trail often comes out along the ridge, and on the left side there are a number of places where you are riding right on an enormous cliff face – where a fall would result in a long, and most likely terminal decent. Then you dive down a really steep section, into the bush, where the trail continues to amaze with its flow – punctuated by views of the valley.

The last section of the trail comes down super-steep fast sections with surprising wild corners that keep you constantly laughing with the adrenaline rush.

Finally, after a brake and arm burning rush inducing descent, you end up right beside Scott’s place for beer….mmm beer…I think I will get one now.

On this day, there were no clouds, no wind and at the peak the temperature was probably 18.
Super big thanks to Scott for pulling the whole thing off as always!

These look good on the web - but make sure you drop by the fantastic Cadence Cafe in Bowness and have a look at the real shots!
