Riders of Richmond: Sam and Davis

by Matthew Walker
PROGRESSION: noun
1. a movement or development toward a destination or a more advanced state, esp. gradually or in stages.

A movement or development toward a more advanced state. The constant pursuit of the biggest jump we can hit, the steepest descent or the gnarliest line. The end of this video is a testament to the great value of a riding buddy who will push you to the edge of your comforts and then beyond to the land of progression.

Sam and Davis met two years ago where all great friendships start--in the woods. Sam had built some jumps behind his house that Davis discovered one evening while exploring on his Wal-mart Mongoose. Now, two years, some bike upgrades and a few scars later, they've become close riding, building and racing buddies. The trail in this video (location undisclosed) is testament to the riding and building side of their friendship. Built in a small patch of woods behind a subdivision, their trail, winding through a patch of classic Virginia pine, doesn't boast a large elevation drop or a quad busting long-haul of a descent. However, great time, effort and craftsmanship are all on display.

Enjoy

Though it has been said many times before, I feel compelled to echo that the future of mountain biking is very bright. With riders like Sam and Davis at the helm of the next generation riding the winds of ambition and triumph, we can rest assured that mountain biking, a sport of progression, is progressing quite nicely.
