Finding good trails in Sarnia has never been easy, but what I dont think any of us counted on was that some day it wouldnt feel impossible. So when I left off I had just returned to Sarnia from California, I had a bunch of bikes and was looking for some place to ride. I figured that if Canatara wasnt a complete bust I might actually get some riding in from time to time. The first time I went down there I didnt know what to think, I could barely make out the trail because the grass and weeds were so long and what I could make out was just a narrow singletrack trail running through the center of the old Bmx track. I came in the back way, up the hill from the Pt. Edward subdivision, so I more or less started down the other side of the hill riding the line of the old Bmx track. It was this main, narrow and hard to follow line that took me straight down the hill towards the large, right handed berm 3/4 of the way down the hill. This first thing I noticed was how eroded the trails was and how uneven it had become over the years, not at all like I imagined the smooth, concrete like first straight of the vintage Bmx track that had long been forgotten. As I entered the berm I couldnt help but notice that contour and shape of the berm had all but disappeared and been replaced with a flat lifeless profile. It was easy to see that the berm hadnt been properly used in decades, the singletrack was purposefully cut way down in the berm to avoid even the effort of using the height of the berm. Exiting the berm your supposed to be shot down the first real straight away and into a big double, but now you wernt so much shot down as gently guided down some sketchy singletrack and into a beat down set of pathetic jumps. Next time I'll take into turn two and beyond. thanks.
