Our Top 5 Trails at Whistler Bike Park

by Peak Leaders
With around 1500 vertical metres of lift-assisted mountain to play with, Whistler Bike Park has over 60 trails to cater for every type of riding you could imagine! Here's a 'run down' of our top 5 trails:

Honourable Mention - A-line
Infamous in the Mountain Biking world, A-line had to be included in this countdown. A high speed jump trail, with countless flowy table tops all the way down to the bottom. Once you've mastered the art of jumping and want to make the step up from smaller jumps, this is the trail for you. The A-line rock drop is another feature to tick off on the mountain and the last hit is also one to boost off as well..

5. B-Line
Little brother to A-line, 'B-line' is an intermediate trail that is great fun for all abilities. Swooping berms and small table tops all the way down give you a chance to either perfect your cornering technique, or just have some fun and try to perfect your 'cutties'.

4. Crank It Up
Pretty much a mini version of A-line, 'Crank It Up' is one of Whistler's most popular trails. Designed to give riders plenty more airtime than B-line, there are plenty of opportunities to perfect your 'whips', as well as a few wall rides to mix it up!

3. Canadian Open
Canadian Open is a double black diamond and has got to be one of the most technical trails on the lower mountain. Although the top section is off limits until Crankworx week, the lower section starts with some technical corners into a big step-down underneath the chairlift. It then dives down into the woods for a steep 'tech fest' of rocks and roots, definitely one to keep you one your toes. Mastering this trail takes some time, but once you have mastered it and can carry speed, it takes some beating!

The Upper section is only open for the "Canadian Open" race during Crankworx. Relentlessly steep it branches off of Joyride and heads, almost in a straight-line, down underneath the chairlift. This is the sight of the infamous 'Heckle Rock' during Crankworx!

2. Dirt Merchant
The "big daddy" to Whistler's A-line, 'Dirt Merchant' is often missed as it isn't quite as famous. However, if you are feeling confident with your jumping game this trail mixes a lot more features up compared to A-line, with; step-ups and step-downs, large drops and some gap jumps thrown in there. The Creek Gap at the end is another one to master!

1. Original Sin
Starting from just off the Garbanzo Express and forming the first part of the Garbanzo DH race, 'Original Sin' has to be one of the most relentless technical trails on the whole mountain. The steep first section leads into a short uphill and onto some big rock rolls. Traversing along, mixing large slabs of rock and sections of loose slate, it's then on to the 'Step-up island' (take your pick of 3 with small to very big!) and into 'Freight Train'. Following 'In Deep' after this trail really tests your technical ability!
