Well it’s the end of September and the “bike park” season is winding down around the nation. A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to check out the new additions to the
Panorama Mountain Resort Trail System on the closing weekend. I hadn’t been out there since the BC Cup race, which was the opening weekend of the resort. The trail crew did fantastic job of building a more diverse trail system than in previous years. Trails such as the “Insanity Race Course”, and "Crazy Train" have been the premier trails, but after a season of building in 05’ there is a lot more diversity in trail design, and features to ride. One such trail that caught my eye was “Alcatraz”. Although not incredibly difficult, I was really impressed with the new features because they provided diversity and various line choice options, not something you see very often.
Check the pictures to see the features. It was a bit of a chilly experience. The morning started off with a balmy -2C, hence the big warm coat I’m wearing. Needless to say fun was had regardless of temperature.
I didn’t get a chance to check out “Dogtown” another recent addition to the Trail system, so you’ll just have to get out there come Summer 06’.
Since the bike parks are closing for the season, the shift to Shuttle traffic is bound to increase the use of areas such as Mt. Swansea in Invermere, so I thought I'd inform the riders out there...
The local riding trails of Mt. Swansea suffered a loss of trail due to the recent purchase of the private Land “Gravy Train” ran through. Unfortunately the Land owner is NOT interested in having Mountain bikers cutting across the corner of their lot, so the trail is deemed “Closed”, so please respect both the land owner and fellow riders and stay off the trail.
