Help Me Raise Money for People Who Need Bikes

I'm looking for some additional ways to give this season and I love 'leverage'...when your gifts get amplified.

World Bicycle Relief is so cool (For info on World Bicycle Relief see here: http://www.worldbicyclerelief.org/)

In watching the video, what really struck me was the relative value of $134. $134 changes 5 peoples' lives. And then I pour through the boxes of bike stuff that I have in my garage and realize I've got $134 items just sitting there doing absolutely no good to anyone...they're like 'frozen cash' that could be changing someone's life instead of cluttering my life. And let's face it, anyone with the means to own a cool mountain bike is pretty darn lucky...and I have a few cool mountain bikes...so I consider myself to be super darn lucky.

I support a number of local cycling endeavors with time and money...IMBA / MBOSC and Good Karma Bikes are a couple of my favorites. This WBR thing has also really caught my attention...so I'm going to give some money directly (and if I happen to win the bike, I'll sell it and give the proceeds to WBR...or something like that...because I don't need another bike.

And through the month of December, an anonymous donor is matching all the contributions made to WBR. I really like the idea that someone out there is going to match whatever I give...that doubles it...and my employer also matches dollar-for-dollar, so that TRIPLES it. That's cool. That means that if I could sell a $45 bike part that's just sitting in my garage, it's going to turn into a life-changer for 5 people. That's just amazing.

So, all the stuff that I can find in my garage (bike-related) that I'm not using is for sale and it will be turned into cash that will be directly donated to WBR and tripled in impact.

I don't know any other way, other that the honor system, to make this work. ie. I'm thinking someone's going to ask: how do I know you're not going to keep the money? I don't know how to answer that. I know that I already give lots of parts to good karma for free, I write decent sized checks for local trails, I build trails, when I sell parts online (which I do a ton of and have for a very long time) I cut Veterans huge slack on prices (sometimes give them the stuff for free)...but I don't know how to demonstrate that all the funds will, in fact, flow through to WBR. If someone has a good idea, I'm all ears. So this is just starting the conversation...I'll provide a link below to stuff that I've already posted and I have a bunch more on the way, yet to get posted. And if you're looking for something that's not up there yet, ping me because maybe I have something like it.

This goes for all the stuff I have posted that's $500 or less in value...I have a frame and forks up there that are more than that...I'll give 1/2 of the proceeds on those items. And I'll accumulate all the funds raised through December to take advantage of the matching contributions.

Please let friends / riding acquaintances know also...I'd like to amplify this as much as possible.

thanks.
