Haiku for the damned

the cold war paranoia of my youth in the 70's & 80's. Oddly, NOTHING has changed today.Christian kings and their holy wars,
came to an end 'cause they couldn't keep score
the virgin Mary guarded the door,
with a shotgun full of confessions

sister Michael and Bobby McGee,
devoted their days to stealing TV's
to feed the habit they picked up for free,
in rehab out on the coast

pope John Paul and the Michelin man
doing 20 to life in the federal can
spend their days dreaming up plans
while the choir sings in the gutter

general Castro and Boris the bear
went to New York and attended the fair
the F.B.I. arrested the pair
while the rain pissed down in the harbour

the Hells Angels and the C.I.A.
were making bathtub speed out in L.A.
no one had too much to say
about the riots down in the ghetto

surrounded by the shrinking trees
and sinking in sulphuric seas
the Captain called out for his tea
as the clock struck 13 bells

I picture this as a song. Acoustic of course, with someone with a deep voice (Johnny Cash-esque) singing.
