Broken Collarbone/ Season over????

I've noticed people blogging about broken bones so here's mine. On July 26th I was at Carters Lake testing a new helmet cam my sponsor Off-road Unlimited gave me. Actually they gave me a new full face helmet with the camera already mounted to the side. They wanted me to test it out because they wanted my runs on race day to be recorded. So I took my bike up to Carters Lake where the race was going to be a couple of days later. I broke my own cardinal rule, I did not put my chest protector on. NOW I have had so many bad wrecks practicing or just pushing the envelope on huge jumps or rock drops and never broken anything. My chest protector has nice THICK well cushioned shoulder cups with side protection also. The downside is it gets HOT with a long sleeve jersey and all my body armor. So I decided since I was only doing one run I didn't need it. I guess you know what is coming. I pedaled to the downhill courses and they were already taped off for the race that weekend so I picked the closest one which was a 2 black diamond, nothing hard about it compared to the one I had been practicing on. I started down at a good speed(30 mph) and manualed over some rollers then a hard left came up. Pretty flat turn so I feathered the rear brake a little but there were big tree roots going across the turn. My rear tire slipped out from under me. I landed on my left shoulder where my CHEST PROTECTER shoulder protection would have been. I heard my collar bone snap when I landed. I reached up to turn my camera off and started throwing up from the pain. I walked 3/4 of a mile out with my bike puking the whole way. 2 other riders loaded my bike for me and I drove myself to the nearest ER 35 minutes away. I broke it in two places along with my AC joint. Had it plated with 10 screws. It's been 3 weeks since the surgery and the only pain I have is where he cut through all the muscle tissue, no pain in collar bone. My doctor said its unreal that I am 3 weeks ahead of schedule in healing which I should not be since I'm 46 yo. He said biologically I have a body of a 29 yo man. I look like I'm in my early 30s and nobody believes me when I tell them my age. So I will be cleared to street ride in 2 weeks and off-road in 3 weeks after that. I've heard some people saying it has taken them 3 months!!!! Thought I would throw my story out there. I will say this. If you are doing anything close to downhill INCLUDING Enduro wear you're body armor!!! I don't care how hot it is. Powerade is cheaper than 30,000 dollars which is what the surgery cost! I am going crazy not being able to ride and being stuck with the wife is also driving me nuts. WEAR THE DAMN ARMOR!!!!
