We have finally finished our MTB movie - dot.Four, thanks to Pinkbike and SB Shop. Recently we participated in a Slovenian film festival called BOFF (Bovec Outdoor Film Festival). Despite the large number of competitors from different countries (USA,IT,CZ,NZ,UK,SLO,..) we placed in the middle of the list with an average score of 3.31%, which I think it is pretty good considering we were there for the first time and at such a young age.
The dot.Four movie from Slovenia is inside!
This movie does not include pro riders, but it is more devoted to four friends, riding bikes. I also wanted to prove to our best local riders that I can do a movie like this!
Below is the dot.Four announcement on Slovenian mountain biking site www.mtb.si
dot.Four premier in Bovec, Slovenia
dot.Four, a film by young filmmaker Blaž Tomažin (mSix production) was shown for the first time on the big screen at the Bovec Outdoor Film Festival (BOFF). Between 20 chosen films that were shown at the third Bovec film festival of sport and nature, the 25- minute long dot.Four MTB movie was shown as fifth in the row. In front of about 250 viewers, this was the only premiere of the festival – the film was only shown to a small group of Maribor locals before that.
Between strong competition, dot.Four won a big applause.
As the author says, dot.Four isn't meant to show top class riding. It shows only 4 friends doing what they like the most. So the riding isn't NWD style or something like that, but the camera work is very good. Cable cam, dolly and a camera crane were also used. There are some imperfections but these are young guys with much love for filming and riding their bikes. In the future we can expect only better products from them.
In a short interview the author Blaž Tomažin summed up his impressions from the premiere: "It was great to see the movie on a big screen, I also had to go on the stage, so I was a bit nervous, but it turned out well. I think that the audience liked it."
Where else will we be able see the movie in the future? "The movie will be uploaded on Pinkbike and Vimeo. For those that want it in a special edition it will be available at SB Shop, our local bike store in Maribor."
How long did it take to shoot the movie and edit it? "We began filming in July at the National DH race in Kranjska Gora (Slovenia), followed with a short break and continued in August, September and October. We spent many hours filming on Pohorje (Maribor, SLO) and unfortunately the gondola, broke down and we had some trouble to bring all the equipment to the top. Luckily the guys from the sport center Pohorje helped us out and gave us a lift to the top."
"All the editing was done by myself and took about one month. There were many sleepless nights, but everything paid out in Bovec."
Do you already have some ideas for a new movie? "There were already some ideas. I would like to shoot with other riders from Maribor and maybe with some other guys from our country in the future."
I was last year in Slovenia, in Trenta it´s between Kranskaja Gora and Bovec, and I just can say it´s really wonderful nature rivers so clear I´ve never seen, real good tracks and nice peoples !!!! Slovenia is a trip worth
hmm, really nice video work and stuff, big fan of the pole shots and the edit was pretty tidy! but too much boring woods and the riding was pretty lame in places :/ but keep up the good work and i want another one next season!
i agree, it was all cool and editing and all was good but the riding just got boring.....
it didnt help that i didnt understand a word they said either
I think we are all a bit too used to watching the pros, so this seems like a step down, but in reality its a great edit and the riding isnt bad either. Props to the guys who made it and showed what a bunch of mates can do!
I agree. This shows what production value, and money invested can do. The riding was w,e and they used the same exact type of shot over and over for most of the segments. Good filming, good production, bad riding.
I dunno about bad riding mate. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't professional, dazzling, or amazing. Maybe average? But certainly not bad, give 'em some credit.
you're right kbrock , i didn't want to discredit the verry nice work behind of it ... the footage ,edit and the camera plans are good sharp and creative . maybe im too obcessed by jumps and freestyle tech sometimes . heh
cant you read: Quote: "This movie does not include pro riders, but it is more devoted to four friends, riding bikes. I also wanted to prove to our best local riders that I can do a movie like this! "
Great movie too.
