While I look forward to the big mountain rides of summer, Winter is by far my favorite riding season. Cooler temperatures and tacky soil. Long sleeves and long rides. Frosty mornings mean pre-ride coffee is a requirement. At home in Northern California's Gold Country, winter is by far the best season for riding.
My brother and I worked hard to earn the support from the legendary British Columbia bicycle manufacturer Rocky Mountain Bicycles. We received our new Thunderbolt BC's and Altitudes in November just in time for Winter.
Absolutely blown away by these bikes.
Coincidentally, our nearby shuttle service in Georgetown, California is repping Rocky now as well and growing culture in Gold Country.
Awesome bikes on awesome trails, plan a ride out here in the winter months.
Been dabbling on the dark side with the new Altitude Powerplay. E-bikes are rad in Georgetown.
Starting in Truckee, the Western States Trail traverses the rugged and remote backcountry of Placer County to the town of Auburn. We finally got to ride the trail from China Wall to Foresthill in late December.
Over 9000 feet of descending on mining and moto trails. All on outstanding backcountry single track, that is arguably more remote than summer backcountry rides.
Winter is also a time of convenience for us. We spend most of our time riding the trails accessible with a short ride from our door.
Short and sweet. Green grass and velcro dirt.
Winter wouldn't be without a healthy dose of digging new trails.
This trail would later become Stage 2 - "The French Tickler" at the TDS Enduro
Auburn can get a little crowded, however, cool winter temperatures tend to keep the swarms away.
Rad views on "Eastside".
The rain is now gone. Jackets and pants are substituted by shorts and synthetics. Winter came and went just as quick as the temperatures have been shooting up.
