Like many, when the sun pops along with the neon green in the forest, I find it impossible to just rake and ride my jump line. I see a little of this and a little of that, that I would like to fix or boost up. I start to look forward to leaving work early some days to get a little dirt work in on the jump line. This is probably a result of the sudden Vitamin D bursts after 7 months of grey. It's like life goes back into color.. My list of projects usually starts out pretty minor; rake the line, fill in cow hoof holes, add a little of dirt to this landing, reshape that lip.... This is a result of working on other trails all winter and these things pile up. Next thing you know your obsessing and having weird dreams about trails going into tunnels and ending up in the basements of old hippy houses. I have to get going on this.
Doesn't take long for Last years fresh work to get hammered by weather and Cows. For some reason Cows in these woods prefer to walk up jump faces and on top of berms instead of around them.... Yesterday I cleared the afternoon work schedule and headed out to the zone.
So the plan was to remove the baby jump on the right and put that dirt on the landing of that line. Then set up the frame work for the wood lip. Measures 8 foot rails, and 2 foot high by 17 inches wide. Small, but this is on the berm line that i have for beginners and people to jump over on the berm gap (line to the left).
I had prefabricated some rails and posts at home in anticipation of doing some improvements. Thankfully we had packed them out with the lumber last week when rebuilding the step up step down.
Lined it up perfect with the landing.
Reshaped the step lip on the left that had been trampled by cows. This is a small step that feeds into the berm gap. Super fun!!!
Berm gap, Great lip.
First berm was getting grown in and tight, along with hoof holes in it.
So I dug down and moved the dirt up. Opened up the line and canted more at the bottom
Got everything dialed in for this 3 hour after work session, but this is just the first corner and first 2 jumps. I have about 20 more to go, but at least I can sleep easy knowing I got the wheels rolling.
The after shot looking at the two lines that intersect. Now at least the guy getting jumped over has a little more fun on the baby line.
