Long Term - Whyte 901

Quick pit stop before my descent. Trying to beat some chap on strava. I am 20 seconds off his time but then I keep running into riders coming up or people with dogs.
Time goes by and I have racked up a good 100km on the 901. It's been a learning curve and things have been going well. I am really getting used to the wheels and the bike in general with my DH speed increasing incredibly fast.
I did try out some clipless peddles from Crank Brothers (mallets) but due to my long term ankle injury I have had to ditch them. I need my foot further up on the peddles to rest my ankle at times and the clipless system does not really allow for this. I am donating them to a colleague who has the egg beaters and complains they are not enough of a platform.
I dunno. I leant my bike against a stump
I still find the tyres a little lacking but as the trails have dried a bit they seem to be finding more traction and I admit I do enjoy them sliding around at slower speeds. Changes to the saddly position have made the bike more comfortable but 30km rides still give me pause for thought. Everything is wearing well and the drivetrain is holding up well to the mud with only minor adjustments to keep everything running straight. The forks work admirably. Too admirably in that I don't really notice them. I never feel them bobbing or making things vague and yet I am super comfortable and confident thundering down steep, rocky and rooty descents. Some of this confidence comes from the brakes though. My god they are good scrubbing of speed at a mind bending rate and remaining in fairly good order on some pretty long descents. Yes they do pump up and get a bit grindy when I have to trail the brakes for a long time but that is to be expected. I have yet to experience them fading.

Hopefully I will be taking it to some more DH oriented trails soon. This will be the true test on how it handles the bigger stuff and some jumps to boot

Yeah I have been meaning to do an update..... The bike is great and it keeps getting great reviews in magazines. The components are holding up incredibly well at nearly 1000km on them. It is now than capable at keeping up with full suspension bikes and, if your style suits, can monster truck some pretty rough routes. Then you get the added bonus of it climbing so well. If you have the 2016 version then the extra 20mm in the top tube will help it be even more stable and controllable. Its a shame that you cannot put bigger tyres on it as it would make it so much better. But the wheels seen to be holding up to my lack of finesse. Worthwhile upgrade is a dropper post. It really is revolutionary

How's it holding up? I've recently bought one and love it, unfortunately the weather is pants and I can't ride it enough!
