I feel like a nine-year-old kid again waiting for Christmas morning to arrive. In just two weeks, Pinkbike will get a sneak preview of [L=http://www.raysmtb.com]Ray’s Indoor Mountain Bike Park[/L] in Cleveland, Ohio. What is Ray’s you say? For those who haven’t had a chance to visit the website at
www.raysmtb.com, Ray’s MTB Park is a like a mountain biking nirvana for those of us stuck in a climate with as many months of snow as dry weather.
Ray’s is an indoor park built inside a 66,000 square foot warehouse. It’s filled with stunts of all types and varying difficulties from simple ladder bridges to a massive 8-foot-tall, 26-foot long berm.
The huge floor space in the warehouse has been divided into sections to allow for beginner, intermediate and expert courses.
The grand opening is expected to happen in late-November, but Ray’s crew has already spent thousands of hours designing and building the park.
“Construction is right on schedule and we will be adding things all the time,” said owner Ray Petro. “This place would not exist if it were not for the 20 or so volunteers I have. They range from the art director to the guys hauling lumber.”
For those of you living within a few hours of Cleveland, you’ll be happy to know pricing won’t be outrageous. It will be similar to that of an indoor skateboarding park.
For those of you not living close to Cleveland, you’re out of luck, but I’ll be test riding the facility on Nov. 8 and will provide a full report afterward complete with photos and on-bike video runs of each section.
