Press release: Whyte Bikes

We've updated our acclaimed e-160 platform with a host of refinements that aim to deliver an even better ride. The previous version has become a hit with customers and bike testers alike, and we've built upon that success with the new model. New for 2023 is a new re-profiled hydroformed downtube to accommodate the largest Bosch 750Wh battery, and a larger headtube to match big 38mm stanchion forks. A slide in rail system ensures easy removal of the battery as necessary. We've expanded the range with new wheel sizes, new spec levels and new colours, offering you even greater choice.

Low Centre of Gravity Concept

The overall chassis design is focussed around the number one priority of correct first-principal Mass Distribution with the aim of lowering the overall centre-of gravity, and as a result dramatically improving the ride performance. To this end it features an innovative transverse motor positioning which facilitates a slide in Bosch power tube installation. Thanks to relocation of the battery connection from bottom to top, the battery location is now even lower compared to the previous generation. The uncompromised downtube also delivers impressive chassis stiffness. The result is a superb planted feel, and easily initiated direction changes as you flow from corner to corner.

Bosch Performance Line CX

The e-160 is powered by the latest Bosch Performance Line CX drive unit delivering 85Nm of torque, and comes with a huge 750Wh for truly epic rides. The new smart system by Bosch links the LED remote with the Bosch eBike Flow app. This increases the user experience with a host of features; you can lock the motor with your phone, tune performance parameters, view smart ride data and more.

New Wheel Sizes and Shape.it Link

In response to rider and dealer demand, the new e-160 is available in 27.5", 29" and MX (29/27.5) configurations, subject to size.

• 27.5" is available in XS, S

• MX is available in M, L, XL

• 29er is available in M, L, XL

Our Shape.it link offers high and low positions, which are easily adjusted with an alley key. The low setting will slacken the bike out by 0.7 degree and lower the BB by 8mm. The Shape.it link also has another function, it can be used to convert the 29er bike to a MX setup if left in the high position, and on our MX bikes it can be used to change to a 29er platform. This gives riders even more control of their bikes in the future.

Whyte Tuned Suspension

All bikes feature Whyte custom tuned suspension. Each bike is test ridden by Sam Shucksmith, Enduro racer by day and Whyte's Mountain bike engineer (also by day). Sam has a real focus on rear shock development, with great relationships with both Fox and RockShox. Sam takes an iterative approach, testing on average 4-6 tunes before settling on a tune. The fruit of this labour is suspension that hits the sweet spot between support and small bump compliance, for outstanding performance on the trail.

The new Bosch LED remote looks like it ought to produce 3 different siren sounds. Like a kids bike siren from 1985.
