Nowadays young dirt jumpers focus on tricks such as double or even triple barspins, tailwhips and maybe one or two bangers: 360 whips or flip whips. Tricks that would win every contest back in the day are now pulled off in typical qualification runs. You could say the ‘dirt scene’ as we know it can start to get boring and there are very few riders that really stand out. I love it when people pull signature tricks and put their own style into every move. Creativity and style are the two main things in riding bikes for me. I love FMX inspired tricks, but they are still not as popular in dirt jumping.
I don’t like winter as the day starts at 7:00 AM and the light goes out by 3:30 PM so I need to wake up early. I hate wasting daylight sleeping. That’s why I get myself together every single day by the crack of dawn and ride my pitbike to the training spot. It is not far away from my home and the size of the bike makes it usable on the same jumps as my Dartmoor jump bike. It is the first winter ever I have not lost riding time during the cold days.
Polish winters are typically harsh and we get some serious in snow at this time of a year. But this season has been kind enough for us and we have temperatures above freezing in the day time. Our regular spots are not working due to the problems with wet conditions, but we have put some shovel work into ‘The Pit’ step-up section and it works perfectly. This area is sand so we don’t have any problems with frozen earth on jumps. It's the perfect winter spot. We added a new boner log to the step-up section so the chances for some new tricks have doubled!
Anyways, keep warm and stay focused on your goals folks!
