good bike, good design but ahead of its time? not really, 1998 Cortina DH8, earliest & best that came to mind, not to mention mine of course but I'm not sure if Karpiel was earlier with the design or not.
I think he means as far as DW link suspension goes. These days a lot of bikes use it, but not back then. As far as your karpiel goes, well all I can say is that I wish I had one. It definitely is in my top 5 list of bikes to have.
99 Specialized FSR team dh. this frame deserves a remake
awsome Bike! Have the same one! And painted it black too. As I cracked it and with the welding the decals melted. Now hanging on the wall in livingroom

Looks solid, I'm helping a buddy rebuild a survivor frame in factory red/white/blue
He's got pretty much a complete factory team spec sans period correct X-vert carbons and a set of deemaxes, doing hope big uns on NOS D321s to be shod in Michelin comp16s (with badging removed as Palmer did back in the day)
I should get him to sign up and put up some pics, he's got some epic oldskool dh bikes
I ride a 2005 Trek Session 7 all stock except for Azonic Outlaws, Rock shox Totem, Elixer 5's, and Nevegal 2.5r/2.7f(????????????). Love it and not planning on getting rid of it. I spent 500$ on it total.
I second that man! I'd love to see some old school dh bikes
