So Im really wanting a full suspension dirt jump bike, but looking around it seems theres not many full suspension dj frame options. I came across this Iron Horse Azure Team xc bike locally, and the frame itself looks pretty dirtjump bike like. What if I were to take the frame and just put all dj spec parts on it?
Think it would work, or will it just fall apart with the abuse of dirtjumping? It is a xc bike, so I suppose its not that tough (but its super light) and the geometry is probably way off. But you never know, would make an interesting bike atleast haha.

Heres a pic from the owner (it sucks but you get the idea)

Not a good idea. Full suspension cross-country bikes have the suspension designed for a different purpose--taking out small bumps while sitting down and pedaling. DH, Slopestyle, 4x, full-sus DJ, is more concerned about bigger impacts, while providing the appropriate re-bound so that you can boost off the face of a jump properly.

Now, if there's some way to tune the shock on this particular bike in the proper way, I don't know. I have a Transition Double, and it is excellent, but I've ridden other full-sus All-Mountain bikes and tried to jump them, and they were awful.

"Pro rider and Transition Bikes employee Lars Sternberg shreds his Double on Unemployment Line on Galbraith Mountain, one of the first machine built lines on Galbraith with over 40 jumps."

Check out the Black Market Killswitch, Specialized P.Slope, Transition Double and NS Soda Slope.

An ALUMINUM xc bike turned into a DJ bike? Not a good idea. The frame will fail, badly. Unless you are super smooth or hit super small jumps, one day it will fail. You said it "it's super light".

It does look interesting, maybe a race specific 4X bike.. I'd like to do something like that was well but full squish bikes will cost a lot. A good sus fork will cost as much as a real nice BMX bike. Add a rear shock and frame to that $$$$, so I stay with what I have.

Thanks alot guys, makes perfect sense! So that idea was scratched. But, I do have another similar question. I ended up buying a 2012 NS Soda frame that I am going to build up with all the parts from my dirtjump bike, but the thing is its a Soda freeride frame. How well is the freeride frame going to work for dirtjump/park/trail riding? Its a smaller frame so it wont be bulky. I suppose the only real difference is the travel and link set up (will need a chain tensioner for that), anything else I should know about? It will be a nice bike so Ill be happy either way, but I am hoping to hit some dj stuff with it.

Is that this one?

Yep thats pretty much the same bike. This is the frame I bought, just waiting for it to arrive. I didnt really realize there was a difference between NS Soda Slope and Freeride when I bought it, so Im just hoping I can use for an alright full suspension dirtjumper

The biggest thing will be your setup. Short stem, short fork, low seat. All things in reason....

Well here's the bike so far, I think it's working good Smile I'm trying to put on the bmx cranks, do I just need a Euro BB with 19mm spindle? And I'll need a chain tensioner, anyone have any suggestions? I'm wanting something small and not too noticeable, and hopefully one that doesn't need a derailuer hanger as I don't have one on the frame.

You do not necessarily need a 19mm (actually 3/4") spindle, but you will need a euro BB that will fit the crank you have. IF you have a 19mm spindle then you need a 19mm BB to fit it. They are the most common. If you have a derailleur kicking around you can use them as a chain tensioner but they look kinda bad. There are lots out there to chose from DMR makes a decent one but it may not have enough flex to work with a squishy frame.

Nice looking ride, I'd love to build a full squish DJ/fun all around bike.
