and the step up/boardwalk section is coming together!
this thing is seriously scary- look at the people in the pic to get an idea of the size of the jump up! It'll be super smooth cause its a massive radius jump but when you're standing on the lip is suitably butt-puckeringly terrifying
well the slopestyle course that i welded all the features for is al finished and packed up, and it was an absolutely epic day! heaps of spectators, four different divisions/events on the course, and redbull put on an afterparty at the perth casino and the course designer (paul neve), myself and a few of the other lads all got VIP treatment and free drinks all night which was pretty nice. actually that last bit is a lie cause absolutely everyone who entered the event got free booze all night, but hey i like to think that they appreciated our efforts lol the event got televised live, web-streaming the whole time; flip-whips, decades, double flips got thrown down, and i got really drunk too which isn't really that surprising but i appreciated nonetheless.
there was a full course run-thru here which shows the step-up to elevated boardwalk section, sea container step-up-step-off, wall ride, hips and the booters if anyone's interested-
now on the upside we have an entire bloody modular slopestyle track down at the descendence testing facility (aka the three chilli's farm) to fak about with...i really cant wait to start hitting some of those booters to big soft dirt piles
When I did it with my bike I had the exact same stays, but I had the tube bender at school. I froze the tubes and it worked fine. The dyies were really bad though, I was using the 1/2'' and my 3/4" tube fit in with play. They are a bie ovalised but it doesn't look goofy.
Thats because you didnt use a tube bender, you used a pipe bender. tube is measured by OD whereas pipe is measured by ID so 1/2" pipe is pipe with a 1/2" bore.
That makes sens! I never thought about that.
I made it work with the ones I have right now! After scraping 1 set of stays trying to bend without sand or ice, I decided to freeze my other set.
Originaly those stays are made to fit 29er tires. Now they will easily fit 4.8 on a 177mm hub! No kinks, not ovalised, bends are almost exactly the same, it's hard to tell they're different. It was bend using half of a 19" rim, by hand. I'm surprised and really happy it worked that well!

how'd you plug the ends? lots of chewing gum?
It's as simple as that, plug one end however you want (I used wine bottle plugs), drop it in the freezer and bend it when it's still frozen. Works amazing! Easier than finding sand also.
Just wondering for those of us who can't afford a full on OXY/ACCT torche kit, is one of these little OXY/MAPP kits sufficient for brazing(if not full on tube brazing, how about braze-ons like cable stops)? What kind of temperature difference is there between this and OXY/ACCT?

Used oxy acetylene setups can readily be had for $100 or so at estate sales. Craigslist often seems to have them as well.
It's not the temperature that is at issue - an oxy-fuel gas mixture will far exceed what is required to braze. It is the ability to heat, and control that heat that is important. The temperature of most oxy- fuel mixtures is in excess of 5000 degrees F. However, the BTUs is small, and there is a limited range. What you want is to be able to heat quickly, and keep the temperature controlled. It is hard to do that with those little kits (though possible).
Quick question about head tube gussets. What's the best way to do them? Weld the DT fully then weld on a gusset or do you do the gusset and DT at the same time? Cheers
