Gravity Group is pleased to announce their partnership with Morewood Bikes as bicycle supplier and co-title sponsor along with Kenda Tires for their World Cup Team. TEAM KENDA MOREWOOD will be represented by two of the most famous names in downhill racing: Nathan Rennie (AUS) and Mitchell Delfs (AUS).27 year old Nathan Rennie (AUS), a former overall UCI Elite World Cup Downhill Champion and Junior World Champion, is a regular World Cup podium visitor, multi-time high-class events winner and is a pleasure to watch on the bike. After several World Cup podiums in 2008, with his highlight being 2nd place on his home turf at World Cup number 7 in Canberra, Nathan Rennie is a definitive contender for podiums in both the 2009 World Cup series and the 2009 World Championships in Canbera, Australia.

Nathan Rennie, KENDA MOREWOOD Team Rider

“I am super happy to be where I am in 2009. Not to mention that 9 is my favorite number, I am especially happy to be working with new people and working with people I already know. I am impressed with everything so far and how fast the ball has got rolling. I’m stuck in training already and my knee feels good. It wont be long before it will be 100%. I feel like the change for me is for the better for all parties and just want to get racing again. See you at the races.”

Nathan’s compatriot, 19 year old Mitchell Delfs (AUS) is still one of the young guns on the World Cup circuit. After a good performance during the 2007 World Cup in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada and a 4th place at 2007 Junior World Championships, Mitch was given the opportunity to participate in his first full World Cup season in 2008. Mitch has progressed from race to race and after 2 top 10 finishes in the second part of the season he has become a contender for consistent top 10 results in the 2009 season.

Mitchell Delfs, KENDA MOREWOOD Team Rider:>

"I am super stoked to be working with Gravity Group again for the 2009 season. It’s going to be an exciting year, with a great bike and good factory support to race on. I’m sure there will be a few World Cups with my name on it. With a new team mate as fast as Nathan Rennie I know my riding will improve, which will make TEAM KENDA MOREWOOD the new power house team on the World Cup circuit."

The Morewood Makulu will be the downhill weapon of choice for TEAM KENDA MOREWOOD in the coming season. Nathan and Mitch will also use the Mbuzi, Shova and Ndiza for off season training and selected events.

Richard Carter, MOREWOOD BIKES Marketing Director/Co-Owner

“Racing has always been a core value of the Morewood brand, so for us, the formation of a professional race team is a natural progression. It also further demonstrates Morewood's commitment to Downhill, and our commitment to further developing our products at the highest level of the sport.
Gravity Group has a reputation for running one of the most professional teams on the circuit, so the opportunity of forming a partnership with them was something we just couldn't pass up on, despite current economic sentiment.

I believe we have one of the most competitive packages on the circuit. Good bikes however are nothing without great riders, and we feel privileged to work with riders of Nathan and Mitch's caliber.

Filling the shoes of a team as successful and respected as Syndicate is a big task for anyone, but I believe Peter Siulczynski and the Gravity Group are up to the challenge. With the right support and infrastructure I know Nathan will be right at home in no time and ready to retake his place on the podium where he belongs.

As Mitch is already familiar with the team, we hope to build on and maintain the momentum he gained last season.

With the level of commitment and determination already demonstrated by Riders, Gravity Group and Sponsors alike, anything is possible"

Further Team News including Team Co-Sponsors and Team Schedule will be announced shortly.

How is the bike very ok? have you ridden it?
  • 13 0
No I did not. This is new bike 09. It looks very nice and I have some experience in different bikes. Personally I do not like V-10. Glue you to the ground like no others but for me difficult to jump. So I prefer Commencial, Iron, Kona and other bikes with less travel and sag. I am not saing V-10 is bad, not at all. This is just my very personal preference. This one I like very much man!!!

were you saying the morewood is very OK or the v10?
  • 9 1
I was writing about Morewood. IMHO both bikes are very, very good I think but I never rode Morewood. I had V-10 my self as I liked Kona Stab Supreme Fabien Barel Edition and Commencial more. This is all very personal. Let me tell you something. A few years ago I believed in marketing. All that bla bla bla VPP is better, Maestro is the best and DW-Link is best of the best and better and fucking mision to save the world hahahaha Now after some years of riding I tell if choose from good, proved company having experience in DH you can choose no wrong. Kona, Intense, Santa, Iron, Turner, Morewood and........................ they are little different but all very good!!

Maybe it is my english. 4 me very ok means very good.

Pease man and see you some where on the trails Wink ))

Happy New Year to all of you on pinkbike.
  • 3 1
O ok, I though you were implying the Morewood was going to disadvantage Rennie because it isnt as good as the v10 or whatever. Cheers
  • 2 0
No no, moreover Smile ) this year I might come and visit my friend Johann Pottgieter in South Africa and then I will kick your ass on local DH or you will kick mine on More...wood Smile )))

We will have a beer after Wink )))

Rennie on a morewood? Seems funny that hes wont be on a Santa Cruz anymore. But morewood bikes are so sick! Cant wait to see them shred on them in the World Cup!

Please look carefully at the suspension linkage before saying it's like Commencal's.
  • 3 0
This man speaks the truth. It's nothing like the commencal
  • 2 0
its a single pivot like the commy, but you can tell by looking at the link between the rear tri. and shock that they are different. i wonder about the brake jack though(on any single pivot bike). i love single pivots, and they are versatile, but i hate the jack! vpp is so different, designed for pedaling and traction, not jumping. i have to agree that singles jump better, but alot of people dont mind sending it on vpp. but they all go fast, right!?
it seems like rennie is happy, and i think that makes a rider faster any day!!!
  • 3 0
i would also agree with just about most of what you say. the 07 and earlier VPP on a V10 really wasn't good for jumping at all. but they have made TREMENDOUS improvments in the newer VPP designs, getting rid of a dead spot in suspension and letting it sit a little higher in the travel. this is with all the newer carbon upper linked VPP frames from santacruz. the 2008-09 V10 still may not jump as good as some of the better single pivots. but it jumps better than the crap single pivots, better than most other VP designs. (such as DW) and jumps better than 4bar/horst link. the new VPP feels great.

+1 on your comment

i am leaning towards the v 10 for my 2009 race bike, but i like the versatility and freeride prowess of single pivots. its nice to know that the 2nd gen vpp is better for jumping. classic bike holy grail dilemma for me right now... lets just not talk about horstses right now..
  • 0 0
well its definitely not a free ride bike and i would not suggest it for free riding. its a purpose built race bike and that what i feel it does great. it will destroy any jump or obstacle on a course just as good if not better than any other. but i personally wouldn't use it for freeriding. mine weigh just about 9 pounds with shock (frame weight. keep in mind its a small AND its anodized)

if your looking for a fast race bike. the V10 is your choice. but i don't do much free riding and i don't know how it would be for that.

Remember he's been on a Kenda-sponsored team before in the early days of the Syndicate. He and Peaty didn't use the Kendas, they used Maxxis tires with the names blacked out. Let's see what Nathan does this time. No Pro Man using Kenda tires got into the top 10 overall WC last year. 9 outta 10 used Maxxis. This is not an opinion, just fact. A fact all WC riders know.

Have you not considered that maybe a commencal looks like a Tomac or how about an old Session 10... Then again no single pivot that is linkage driven and has an interuped seattube should look remotely like another!! something to think about
  • 3 0
Thats pretty sweet.. Look in the comments section of the Rennie leaving Syndicate and I called this!!

  • 3 0
 ^^ dunno...!!
  • 3 3
well that bike is essentialy an 09 comencal supreme dh (comenwood or morecal as i call them) but i think they are a fairly competative bike!!!
  • 1 2
thats exactly what i was thinking
  • 3 0
They are similar bikes, but the morewood has a much stronger rear triangle. Plus, morewood bikes are manufactured in south africa, not taiwan.
  • 0 0
Good eye. Same basic design but the Morewood has a thicker downtube. Does where they are built matter?
  • 0 0
of course it does! this is pinkbike! a south african made frame is 40000x better then a frame made in taiwan, it's just how it works
  • 0 0
ianjanalex, the morewood linkage is slightly different to the thrust link of the commencal, DHR or rocky mountain. Morewood uses a pull link instead of a thrust link, as far as I was told the pull link is stiffer due to the stragth properties of aluminium.
  • 2 0
 wooo go nathan rennie!!!
and morewood bikes are super sick Smile Smile
  • 1 2
morewoods a sick bikes, but if i had a choice i would stick to the v10. then again i dont really know much about morewood bikes but thats just my opinion. the morwood lokks like a much lighter freeride type bike.
  • 2 0

Ya the price tag is stupid in Canada. they are 30 to 35 percent cheaper in the states even when the CD dollar was on par with the US dollar. Its cause the distributor in Canada just got the contract in like the past year and represents a bunch of high end but low volume of sales companies so they don't move enough product to get a good contract to keep the prices low. Lama cycle. like in the states and Canada to get a orange Frame set is like 4000 and to get a izimu DH is 2100 in the states. oh the Izimu is the one below the Makulu and it was the original Top DH rig by morewood. The Makulu is all new for 2009.

www.lamacycles.com/en/s.php?s=108100958

Oh and one more thing PoussMouss is right it is not really like a Commecal. for starters its lower and would handle a little better. Just kidding all bikes have their pro's and con's. But seriously The commecal uses a thrust link like design similar to the old RMX. Where the link is attached to the shock on a pivot and moved by another link attached to the rear triangle that would be thrusted into the shock link and compresses it. The linkage on the morewood is similar but it is actually the inverse of this concept. There is still a link that is attached to the shock and the front triangle that compresses the shock but instead of being pushed by a thrust link it is a pulled by a link attached to the rear triangle. This is what i can gather from photos i have still not yet seen one in person. But keep in mind both design are still low single pivots with a linkage to activate the shock it does not change the path of the rear triangle but it does change leverage ratios and shock rates.

Oh and i think it is awesome they are going to have a world cup team. I have been riding on morewoods for 4 years now and i absolutely love them. Simplicity really does work. Oh and you can build them stupidly light. My 2008 Izimu weighs in at 37 pounds even with a super heavy set of shimano clips (600grams)

 The mud guard you mean?
Well it's probably a good thing for winter, as t it looks like a mud trap in the rear.
I'll take mine off during summertime
