Yes, Kowa is the owner of Kashima coating. But its on the stanchions with its deep cola color!

Right. I rode a friend's Kowa fork last trip to Shikoku and know the one you mean. Almost a super dark purple. Great forks apparently. Mine was well under sprung but smooth as silk

Yes, they are made for Japanese riders and have super low friction to keep them buttery smooth. But, I too have never had the chance to ride one sprung for me. But their 180mm single crown fork I have rode and tested felt awesome!
