Why has everyone negatived proped "sherbet" he is completely right, if you are stupid enough to run your frame which is designed for a 100mm travel fork and you put a bigger fork on the frame, what do you expect? all frames will do that! The frame geo will be so high it will handle like a pile of shit, so why complain at kona when its obviously the mong in the pictures problem?
  • 3 4
i think ur the mong he had his forks set at 100mm travel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! konas r jst shit full stop !!!
  • 4 0
he clearly didn't unless he changed the travel AFTER he snapped the frame, sorry but those forks are not 100mm
  • 1 4
look man they were set at 100mm kona's are SHITE !!!!!!

he had pikies on it which are adjustable you twat !!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 7 2
 Chill out dude!
Kona's aren't shit. Your mate (who broke it) is shit; there's your problem!
If it was down to the bike, why are there plenty of Kona's from the same year as this still running perfectly, and are used for their purpose? I have two Kona's and frankly they are some of the best bike's i've ever ridden, so the fact that you're knocking them so rawly clearly shows how arrogant and frankly blind you must be.
Twat? Right... couldn't you think of a better insult?
  • 1 2
 hahaa

KONA'S are actualy so FU*KIN SH*T there the worst bikes ever a think there a pile of crap n ano aloada folk that have the same opinion . . your the first person ave spoken to n over a year that has actually said konas r gd

n ma mate isnt shit btw !!!!
  • 4 1
You're entitled to your own opinion, but considering your strong opinion there is one of two options i see in terms of your experience, either: 1) You have owned for a reasonable amount of time, several different recent models of Kona, and in different biking styles or 2) Your mate had one which he was too shit to handle and he broke it, thus leading you to say all kona's are crap!
Personally I think it's the latter!
There is of course the third option, which stems from the second, and that is that you're a bit of a sheep, following the crowd/trend of "Kona Haters" with little or no background experience of their bikes. If we're going personal, my bike is significantly better than yours and it's a kona; so stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
  • 2 3
 haha

considering i have had 2 diffrent konas and HATED them BOTH
  • 2 1
Really? I find that hard to believe since you are seventeen, and you have also had a DMR Trailstar and a P2
  • 0 1
yeh 17 and work ma ass off and earn money to afford bike stuff
  • 3 1
Right... so what bikes were they and do you have any proof? Judging by your photo's you never had a Kona, other than a few mate's Kona DJ bikes; and as I said before, for your opinion to be reasonable you should have owned two completely different Kona bikes of recent years (06 or more recent) - for example a cowan, and a stab primo or something like that, but to have owned them for a minimum period of 6 months in which you rode them regularly.
  • 1 4
hav no pics i had a stuff and a cowan HT and rode them regulary i hated them both !!!! was too embrassed to even take pictures of them !!!! had each of them for about 2 - 3 months and got rid of them !! worst bikes i ever bought !!!!! will never go on a kona again !!!
  • 1 0
So you had two dirt jump bikes, that doesn't mean that all bikes made by Kona are shite now does it?
As a matter of fact I have a Kona Scrap and it's very good, it's a 2007 model and i paid £200 for it, it's easily nicer than my mates 09 P2 which he bought brand new for about £600! Sorry mate but they really are not bad bikes.
  • 1 0
Also i'd say that have a bike for a few months does not really permit you to insist that you rode them "regularly"
  • 0 3
i think it duse as i rode them regulary and found out they were shit !!!!!
  • 5 0
kona being shit is a total sterotype tbh yes loads have snaped canny few boxxers have snapped doesnt make them snap i think my stinky primo is an awesome frame
  • 4 0
if you look at most off the bikes in the crankworks and other big events lot off the rideing are ridein kona and the doin like massive drops so they cant be that shit, yer some konas snap but theres a lot more other brands that snap aswell.
  • 1 0
 yes good point mate
  • 2 0
Finally some people have some sense! If anyone were to open their eyes to this sport, they'd realise that the only reason that Konas appear to snap more, is that there are far more of them! They are amazing bikes and even better for the price. Unfortunately they do also tend to be seen as a more "Beginner" end of the bike market, so people who are getting into the sport buy a kona first, and learn on one, and so naturally that will get you breakages!
  • 1 0
konas have bad weld and the way they are melting the alu its been better now tough but thats why you see a lot of them snapping the headset or twisting the rear suspension link
  • 1 0
prove that my point is in any way invalid.
  • 1 0
I dont need to prove it seriously. its the truth simply and your point is valid theres a shit load of konas so more possibility to see one broken but yeah the main problem with kona frame is the quality of aluminum they use and the welding technology (in part why they can sell there bike cheaper than anyone else.
  • 1 0
Explain to me why the level of 6061 aluminium which they use on their frames is any different to that used in other frames or other bike parts. Not to mention very few of them snap at the welds so not sure why you call that to question. As far as I'm concerned, bikes break with crashes. Most bikes would break after the abuse that the majority of broken konas would have been put through. If you want a tank as opposed to a bike, you buy a banshee scream or a karpiel armageddon... THEN you can case 30foot gaps all you like. It's not like they're not strong enough for their intended purpose (plus it's not like these snapped konas are anywhre close to new).

Plus apparently the new thing is hating on intense anyway. Get with the trends bro lol
  • 1 0
yeah its all in the design and some aluminum are less pure than other and seriously if you are trying to says that 06 07 konas where up to the task your funny yes they did get better 09 10 tough but the older ones weren't sry and yes the design of the 951 and is mini me the ss2 is bad since they didn't made the headset section strong enough
  • 1 0
So from all this i can assume, then, that you have had actual personal experience of some of their bikes from the 06/07 era?
I have ridden many, and owned several and i can say quite gladly that i didn't have any problems, and i'm not the lightest rider in the world. I owned a stinky deluxe 06 for about two and a half years and it was fine when i sold it on at the end of last year. no problems whatsoever.
Basically the trick to that was not being some total hack noob doing 10 foot drops to flat, and the sort of stuff that your average pb 12 year old thinks you can suddenly pull off just cause' your new bike has "lotz of shoxz". Several of my friends have also had them and again, never had any problems.

As to the problem with the 951s it isn't, by the looks of it, the headtube but the top tube and downtube sections towards the front of the bike. Though having not ridden one i shan't comment, as i have no personal experience with them. [my comment on intense was a joke, my manager has an uzzi and he loves it.]
  • 1 0
yeah but I never heard about a uzzi braking. only 951 and is little brother and good for you if it didnt break its not like if you own one it will automatically break lol and I love doing 10 foot on flat ( that why I got a flatline... it will never ben what so ever lol )
  • 1 0
so you admit that it isn't an inherent design fault, meaning that the bike is fit for purpose. The hate should be focused not on the manufacturer, therefore, but the rider.
good day Salute
  • 1 0
lol dunno where you got that answer lol Razz is both fault lol they didnt design a bike strong enough but the rider still ride them and break them and they still had the only frame break on the last rampage lol
  • 1 0
"it's not like it will automatically break" - this suggests that it must be due to misuse that they break - meaning the fault of the rider rather than manufacturer. When did their frame break at the last rampage? I wasn't actually aware that Kona had riders there...
  • 1 0
yeah they did had a rider www.pinkbike.com/photo/5703560 break is frame on practice. that's why he had to change frame and dunno if its him but somebody broke both of his kona wah-wah pedals there too and "it's not like it will automatically break" doesnt mean that its more the rider fault lol sure if you put a 10 year old girl on it it wont break but its intended for xtrem fr and dh not showing off or going on tarmac so that point its true that its the riders fault but for the intended use its not strong enough so its the manufacturer's fault at that point and its like the 951 from intense. you see more of them in perfect shape then broken but it doeskin mean that there's no problem with the product
  • 1 0
and yeah its him that broke both of is kona wah-wah pedals lol
  • 5 0
what do u mean set at? even if they are 120mm forks or what not and you set them to 100mm the headtube is still at to steep an angle for the frame to cope and puts far to much pressure on the frame, either that or he lands everything shit heavy. Kona's arent shit, you think lacondeguy bro's would ride for kona if they made shit bikes?
  • 1 0
u guys all just have feness like a rock, learn to ride a bike and plus that bike is from 2005, who knows what its been through, i have a 2005 kona scrap and i ride dj parks and Freeride parks and shit and its still going strong, learn some feness
  • 1 0
use are all sheep following the crowd, most of you have problies never owned a kona and therfore would now if there shit. i have a stinky and i love it, its set up perfectly and it takes everything i have throw at it and i would consider myself as quit good rider so i get pissed off when people say they are begginers bikes aswell because they are good for begginers and better riders !!!
  • 2 0
Dude kona's arent shite, maybe you are just unlucky, but many people have their kona's for years and are completely happy with them and have never broke them!
