This video came together as a project to promote the mountain biking in an area called Søhøjlandet, The sea highland directly translated. Given because of its many lakes.

Hundreds of volunteers work hard to make Søhøjlandet the best mountain bike area in Denmark. This requires a lot, not only a lot of work but also a lot of money and a lot of dialog between the riders and the state. It requires a common culture, between elite and hobby riders, between organized and non-organized clubs, and between all ages and disciplines. When building trails you really come across the diversity of mountain biking. When you might want a big jump others might just need a little pump to get the flow in. But in the end, everybody seems to understand each other, the need of hard and easy trails and better traffic in the forest for trekkers and mountain bikers. The passion is the same, elite or hobby.

Trains all day long

If you even know where Denmark is, you probably also know that we unlike other Scandinavian countries, do not have any mountains. Highest point: 147 meters. Not the first place you would think mountain biking is a growing sport. But actually, the conditions are ideal for some. The undulating terrain makes for shorter descents and ascents which make for a dynamic ride for those who are real Cross Country riders, which is probably why Denmark stands pretty strong in the XCO World Cup. The more gravity orientated riders might prefer more altitude.

There is also freedom to build more enduro related and fun stuff.

We all know that mountain biking is the greatest thing. Unfortunately, not everybody in the state thinks so. But slowly the state starts to see us as not just mental people jumping around on our bikes, but as a community. A community where the bikes are just as important as the trails we ride and the people we do it with. In the end, we get some of our closest friends through the sport, at least, I do.

They start to accept mountain biking as a real sport and this shows. The sport is fast growing and many municipalities are starting to offer support so the trails get better and better.

A trail built by a local school. The trail is called Dead Cow because of the cow skull found while building. Another great trail is called Black Gold because of the old coffee pot they found.

The trail building is a way for mountain biking to get bigger, a way for us to show our commitment to the world. We can show our respect and love for nature and of the opportunities it gives us.
