With Christmas and New Year done and dusted January can be a tough month. It’s dark, it’s bound to be wet and most likely it’ll be cold too. But we are made of tough stuff here in the UK, if you can find the motivation to get your riding gear on and brave those first few minutes of skin tingling cold, the rewards are great. Grab a group of mates, head for the hills and embrace the winter, it’s not going anywhere soon so why not make the most of it! Get out there and enjoy the trails whatever the weather, we guarantee you won’t regret it.

In the latest edit from BikePark Wales; Rowan Sorrell, Rob Williams and Will Soffe enjoy a day at BikePark Wales in Wales’s finest weather. They managed to take in a mixture of the surfaced trails that amazingly have more grip when they are wet as well as some of the more natural, rooty and rocky offerings which also hold up incredibly well in the winter conditions. Smiles for miles for these guys after a day in the park.

Limited time only... It's like that all year long ;-)

It literally rains every single day there.

Not that it matters, with the ridiculous grip in the wet!

I was there on Saturday 2nd and could not believe how well the trails rode considering all the rain we had during the week. Apart from the puddles in my shoes it was as good as summer!

BPW looks like a really nice place to ride. But having to book in advance puts me off big time. I think I need someone to tell me it's worth the 3 hours drive and the chance of a day under heavy rain Frown

make the effort ,its worth it even in the ( normal ) wet

Takes me 2 hours to get there and every single time I've been its been 100% worth it. Whether its dry and hot or cold and wet you can rail everything (with the right tyres)

Took me 4 hours and an over night stay....... It was well worth it!!

i made the same drive on the 30th, it rained all day and was still amazing!

Its ok, don't bring a downhill bike or you will be disappointed.

bit of a negative comment, ive been to BPW plenty of times on a downhill bike, yes its more suited to a 150-160mm trail bike but its still a great time on a big bike

I agree, always take my DH bike. I wasn't at all disappointed.

I wouldn't say it's a negative comment, just an honest observation that I'd agree with. First time I went I took the DH bike and spent a frustrating day pedalling and pumping the hell out of everything I could find. Next time took the 160 xc bike, hit every trail and had smiles for days!

Well thanks for the motivation guys, I'll give it a try.
Bike wise, I have a full on DH bike and a hardtail that I use for single track riding.
Don't have a 160mm. Which one do I take, DH or hardtail?

 DH

DH if you uplift HT possible, take some spare tubes and paracetamol could always rent a 150- 160 trail fs

Hey dude, I have the same. Only have a Scott Gambler and a hardtail. I could probably hack the hardtail there, but love taking my DH bike and just hitting everything possible as fast as I can.

Was there this Satuday (2nd Jan) and it rained pretty much all day.

Most of the trails don't get effected by the rain whatsoever, and still run real fast.
Even the mega rooty trails are serious fun in the rain.

Some of our group think that BPW is slightly better than Morzine!? Its all of the fun of morzine, but not as much hand cramp and arm pump.

Yeeowww!

Better than Morzine ? How much did they pay you to say that !
  • 4 4
To be fair most decent UK DH trails are better than Morzine, Morzine is a braking bump covered sausage fest It pains me that people ride there when there are a million other, better, places to ride in the Alps
  • 2 3
Litterally anywhere is better than morzine, to be fair.
